move to show discrimination between loud and soft. Materials: Hello There song Grizzly Bear Song Pictures of loud and soft things Radetsky March recording and listening map Lesson Development: 1. Have students echo words of greeting, some softer and some louder. S 2. Sing Hello There singing the words softly. 3. Tell students, Today you made loud and soft sounds in your greeting today. Loud and soft sounds are all around you. Listen for loud and soft sounds in the music you make and hear today. Have children sit in a circle. Introduce Hey Children Whos in Town. Say and echo names loudly or softly. Have children: 1. Pat with the beat as they say the rhyme 2. Say their own names all together loudly, then softly. 3. Say the rhyme, then echo as each child says his or her name loudly or softly. Have student return to their seats. Discuss Piano and Forte and use the pictures. 1. Show children pictures of loud and soft things. 2. Explain piano and forte 3. Point to the pictures and have students say piano or forte. Introduce Grizzly Bear. Move to show loud and soft. Have students: 1. Listen to the song with hands held close together, moving them apart when they hear loud music (on the last word). 2. Play the game Assessment: Introduce Radetzky March. Have students make larger movements to show loud sounds and smaller movements to show soft sounds. Have children: 1. Listen to the song while following the listening map and moving their hands apart or close together. 2. Listen to the music, patting with the beat and using large or small movements.
