Whats happening this month?

We have a busy month with our Field Trip to the Childrens Museum at the beginning of the month where we will explore materials around us and have an opportunity to play at the Museum as well. We also have our Student-Led Learning celebrations at the end of the month, to highlight your childs strengths and accomplishments this term.

Star of the Week is well under way. All students will be given an opportunity to be the star of the week. Your child will receive the information package about being the star of the week on the Friday before their week. Please return the forms along with some special pictures chosen by you, to the school on the Monday of your childs week.

What were learning this month:

ELA:
We continue to experiment with Printing and Journal Writing. The students have been working on their writing and adding details to their writing. They are working on making spaces after every word, using upper case letters at the beginning of a sentence and adding a period at the end of their sentence. During Guided Reading time your child is learning the to identify the beginning and end ending sounds of words and well as asking themselves does that make sense?.

Home Reading:
I am very proud of the progress made in reading thus far. Thank-you for your continued support and reading with your child daily! Please note: Any books read with your child can count towards the home reading sessions. Sight Word Practice: There is a total of 10 lists with 10 words on each list. Please send a note in your childs agenda when you believe that he/she is ready for the next list of words.

- Number recognition and addition and subtraction strategies using various manipulatives from 1-20. - We will also explore number patterns and skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s.
