Chicago Dough Pizza Day is next week! Money is due March 11 and Pizza Day is March 13. The New Lenox Police Department is holding their annual Cops Care food drive until April 4th. Students are asked to bring in nonperishable food items to help ll the food pantry. The winning class will receive a pizza party courtesy of the police department Please donate to Girl Scout Troup 505s Used Baby Doll and Used Baby Doll Clothing Drive from January 15th-March15th for little girls who are in need! MR. RAKOCZY Rakoczy Language Arts: ! Due to ISAT Testing we took a week off from StoryTown. ! I have been reading Wonder!aloud to the class. ! It is a novel about a fth grade boy with a facial deformity trying to nd his place at a new school and convince his peers that he's just like them. ! !We also started reading The Watson's Go To Birmingham - 1963.! This is a historical ction book that centers around the 1963 16th Street Baptist Church bombing. !In the story, Kenny is faced with racism and unable to comprehend what is happening. ! He soon realizes that the world is not all peace and harmony and in order to succeed, he must persevere. ! ! Next week, we will return to StoryTown and continue listening to and reading our two novels. ! Rakoczy Science and Social Studies: ! This week we began learning about cells in science. ! Each child should start brainstorming ideas for the 3D Cell Project (for example; what cell they would like to create, what items they will use for each organelle). ! Please do not start as the project guidelines and rubric have not been passed out. ! In social studies, we have been learning about Ancient China. ! We are in the middle of the BIG 6 Project. ! If your son or daughter has not been to the public library to check out book they are behind in the project. ! Please see the rubric that was passed out in class a few weeks ago. ! Cells, Ancient China, and Big 6 are on the agenda for next week as well.!
MISS TENBROECK Math: This week in math, students learned about polygons, tessellations, and translations. We practiced translations and will be moving on to reections next week. Students will be creating animations by using their translation and reection skills to create a ip book, and then make it into a moving slideshow in the computer lab! Next week we will work on their animations and take the chapter 10 test on Thursday. Science/Social Studies: This week in science, we continued chapter 1 and worked on the Big 6 project. Students should now be through page 24 in their Big 6 packets! Next week we will also take one day to work on the projects. Students will be taking the chapter 1 test on Wednesday. We will nish chapter 17 learning about Imperial China next week, but we will not be taking the test until the following week.
MRS. VOSS This week we reviewed polygons and determined what is necessary to form a tessellation. Students began working on an art project that blends the artistic style of Paul Klee with tessellations. We are having fun designing our works of art and we will be displaying them outside my room for all to see when you visit Bentley for Super Family Fun Night on March 27. Now that ISAT testing is done we will be nishing up our study of transformations and Chapter 10. We will be completing a short project as our means of assessment for the second half of Chapter 10. The due date will be discussed next week and will be written in students' assignment notebooks.
MS. RUHL The students have successfully made it through ISAT! Throughout ISAT week the students were also learning more about verbs: predicate nominative and predicate adjective. Next week we will be continuing on with verbs and learning about simple, present tense verbs. In writing, the students were able to work in the computer lab on their persuasive letters to the principal which they will turn in at the end of next week for Mrs. Hall to go over. In reading, we began our
