INTRODUCTION
Turkey maintains it’s progress with progress plans which are prepared for five
years duration since 1963. Food industry has special Commission and all
improvement progress will occur with this plan. There is not any specific “Food
Machine” special report up to this time. This report is the first reference due to
Turkish Food Machine Industry in details.
During the preparation of this report Agricultural and Rural Affairs (MARA).
Under Secretariat of Foreign Trade, State Statistic Institute, State Developing
Agency, Export Promotion Centre, Union Chambers of Commence, Industry.
Maritime Commence & Commodity Exchanges of Turkey data where examined
for including all data in the report.
During the preparation for getting real data and parameters inventory form
were prepared and send to all related companies or filled by visiting some
companies. After returning all inventory forms all data very examined very carefully
due to getting real conditions of food machine industry.
Food Machine sector is the main sector which constructing collaborative
study with Turkey and Spanish company. In this sector; sub sectors are as follows;
Fruit and Vegetable Processing Industry, Dairy and Dairy Product Industry,
Meat and Meat Product Industry, Bread, Pastry and Milling Industry, Sugar and
Confectionery Industry and Food Packaging Industry.
Concerning every sector is examined for food machine production, import and
export conditions. After that food machine industry demand analysis were
determined. Also marketing of food machine sector for projection were examined
Spain food machine companies condition were examined in the Turkish food
machine market. At the end Turkish Food Industry producer, importer and food
machine users addresses were declared for Spanish companies benefits.
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION
Turkey’s population is 68 million and this huge people produce and consume
food, beverages, tobacco which total amount is 75 billion US Dollar.
Agricultural and Rural Affairs performed food sector inventory for 2 years
duration in a pair of years. For this reason we declared the results of food inventory
due to lack of statistical parameters. In Turkey, food production companies total
number is 27.543 according to the Agricultural and Rural Affairs. Survey in 2000.
This companies distribution and located area are illustrated in Table 1. The economic
crisis of 2001-2002 affected negatively in food industry companies numbers were
decreased. But we think food inventory results reflected the real conditions of food
sector than normal statistical parameters.

In food industry main sub sectors are wheat flour and flour products (65.4 %),
fruit and vegetables processing (11.42 %) and dairy and dairy products industry
(11.06 %). Food companies established mainly in Istanbul (23.23 %), Aydın (7.51 %)
and İzmir (15.57 %). In the economic crisis in 2000-2002 period many companies
affected negatively or stopped their activities.
In food industry food capacity production ratio differs between 15-20 % and
100 %.
In Turkey State Statistic Institute (DIE) is responsible for any statistic
knowledge include food machines but in this topic they have some lack of knowledge
and inventory. The State Statistic Institute does not perform special “Food Machine”
report regularly. On the other hand some factories produce every kind of machine
include food machine and reserve equipment. Recently some machine producers
produce only food machine and reserve equipment. In Turkey there is 3000 food
machinery producers. These companies produce different kind of food machines.
These companies are small scale factory which 1-10 labour works in it. Total
production capacity 150.000.000 number a year but production capacity is low like as
25-30 %.
Food machine import total amount is 128.860.000 US Dollar in 1997 and
decreased 60.882.000 US Dollar in 2002. Total food machine export is 87.010.000
US Dollar in 1997 and decreased to 53.785.000 US Dollar in 2002. In that period
food machinery import and export were decreased 53 % and 38 % respectively.
Import and export items include mainly milling, baker, pastry confectionery production
machine. Import made from Italy and Germany whereas export is Balkan Countries,
Middle East, African countries and Russian Federation.
Food packaging machine import is 160.113.000 US Dollar in 1997 and
decreased 90.177.000 US Dollar in 2002. Export is in the same years 11.781.000 US
Dollar and 12.995.000 respectively. During these period total food packaging import
decreased half of total amount whereas export increased very little amount. Food
packaging import are made from Italy and Germany whereas export through to
Turkish Republic in Russia, Balkan Countries, Russian Federation.
Food machine sold by branch office of importers or direct selling from importer
factories. Transportation and insurance fees are include the sales prices who paid
food producers and importers.
Domestic food machine is cheaper 2 or 3 times compare to import food
machine prices.
In Turkish food machine market Spanish companies are unknown, whereas
Italy and Germany companies are well known for food companies.
Turkish Government signed an Custom Corporation Agreement with European
Community (EC) for adopted its regulation and directives to EC regulation.
Permanent under-secretary in a State Ministry is responsible all import and export
activities.
Dairy and dairy machine import from EC countries deprived custom tax
excepted pasteurisation and cream separation. Other all food machine custom tax
zero in import.
In Turkey used and renewed food machine import is legal except some dairy
sector machine (10 years old) which declared in C.C.C.N. number 8434.
Turkey obey EC regulation concerning food machine and equipment safety in
11 January 2002. All EC regulation made Turkish regulation for food machine safety.
Turkish patent and trade regulation put in order to EC regulation since 1995.
As a conclusion Turkish food machine market will increase approximately
15%. Food machine procurement will be occurred from domestic market for simple
machine whereas High Technology food machine procurement from abroad.
Recently food machine import occurred from Italy and Germany. Spanish food
companies are still unknown in Turkish market. Spanish companies should be
established Turkish branch office and to enter market with the domestic prices.
3. ANALYSES OF SUPLY
3.1. GENERAL INFORMATION
Food machine production sector is a sub-sector of machine production sector

which try to increase productivity, decrease prices and increase food quality.
Food industry sector contain 10 sub food sector which all sector expert its own
activities (Table 2).

As shown in Table 2 all food sector used different technology due to their raw
material but main unit operation principles are same. For instance pasteurisation of
milk and fruit juice, roasted hazelnut, roasted coffee, bread and biscuit cooking are
called “Heating”. In food machine classification are made concerning heating,
cleaning, control drying, evaporation, shaping, raw material preparation, packaging,
pumping and separation techniques (Table 2).
In this report fruit and cereals industry, sugar and confectionery industry
machine were examined due to their importance for Turkey and Spanish food
machine partner on the other hand packaging machine market also were examined
due to importance of food, marketing and transportation.
Food machinery’s are classified in the General Industrial Classification of
Activities (ISIC Rev3). Food stuff code is 29.25. At the same time Food Machine
has special Customs Co-operation Council Nomenclature (CCCN) number which
called GTİP in Turkish (Table 3).

3.2. MECHANISATION OF FOOD INDUSTRY IN TURKEY
Food industry is an important agricultural industry which used agricultural

based raw material and produce new food product.
Among the 27543 food industry company; 500 companies have more than 50
technical person and employment, these companies used high level technology for
high quality food product. Other 500 companies have 10-50 labour and technical
person. These companies open minded to technology but due to of financial problem
they did not reach high level technology. Other food companies are small and typical
family type producer. Also change their thinking way because of the new generation
and wants to improve technology level.
3.3. MACHINERIES FOR FRUITS and VEGETABLE PROCESSING
3.3.1. GENERAL INFORMATION

In Turkey; fruit and vegetable processing industry include canned foods,
tomato paste, fruit juice, fruit juice concentrate, frozen and dried foods, fruit jam,
marmalade and jelly sub sectors.
Fruit and vegetable processing sector inventory were performed in 2000 year
by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs which is illustrated in Table 4. The main
sub sector of fruit and vegetable processing sector is dried fruit and vegetable,
canned fruit and vegetable, tomato paste and fruit juice production. Real capacity
level is 53 % in the all sector. But dried fruit and vegetable real capacity is 59 %,
whereas 24 % in canned fruit and vegetable, 42 % in tomato paste and 55 % in the
fruit juice production industry. Dried fruit and vegetable industry is located in the
Aegean region, tomato paste industry is in the Marmara region, fruit juice and fruit
concentrate industry is located in the Middle Anatolia. In all food industry used
domestic raw material. In the tomato paste industry, canned fruit and vegetable
industry and fruit juice industry have foreign financial partners.

In Turkey fruit and vegetable processing industry produce many product like
as canned foods fruit juice, tomato paste, sometime frozen foods in the same factory
plant. Generally every company has only one kind of food products and specialist in
their works.
Turkish fruit and vegetable processing industry is similar Spanish company.
Because two countries climate is similar which produce same kind fruit and vegetable
product which used in the Food Industry as a raw material.
3.3.2. CAPACITY AND PRODUCTION OF MACHINERIES
In the case of fruit and vegetable processing machine statistical data were
kept in the State Statistical Institute (DIE, in Turkish) include import and export
details but there is no data for the production of machinery’s for these sector. For this
reason there is no data for this topic.
Fruit and vegetable processing machine producers are small scale company
with produce the machine with food owners order. Fruit and vegetable processing
machine producers are located mainly in Istanbul, Bursa, Izmir and Ankara city. Main
machine types are breaking, separating, mashing, cleaning, storage equipment.
In this sector Göztepe Machine Moulding, Reserve Equipment Company
produce machine such as elevator, conveyor, trembling, washing machine, cooking
pans, cooking basket, stone separation machine, stem separation machine, peeling
machine, exhaust tunnel, blanchor, broiling calibration machine total 148 equipment
which the main capacity is 440.
3.3.3. IMPORT
Import of fruit and vegetable processing machine is 45.501.343 US Dollar in

1997, 17.732.000 US Dollar in 2002 (Table 5).

3.3.4. EXPORT
The export value was 2-5 million US Dollars in last 5 years in fruit and
vegetable processing machine production (Table 6). Import value of fruit and
vegetable machine industry is 5.425.000 US Dollars in 1997, 4.841.000 US Dollars in
2002. Main export is made through to Turkish Republics and Middle East Countries.

3.4. MACHINERIES FOR DAIRY and DAIRY PRODUCT PROCESSING
The conditions of dairy product industry is illustrated in Table 7 which the

inventory made by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
Milk production of Turkey is 10.000.000 ton in year and used in 7522 dairy
industry. Dairy product industry is mainly located 65 % in Aegean and Marmara
Region. 190 dairy industry company has pasteurisation, 13 company has sterilisation
system where as other companies has normal heating pots.

After international company liked, Danone and Nestle 18 % milk is used in the
modern technology equipped dairy industry. The real production capacity is very low
nearly 23 %; In the dairy industry small scale company closed where as high tech
companies take conditions resulted the high technology in the dairy industry.
3.4.2 CAPACITY and PRODUCTION of MACHINERIES
Milk processing, ice cream and chum machine production and sales amount is
illustrated in Table 8.

Dairy industry machine import is 11,2 million US Dollar in 1999, where as

resulted 4.930.000 US Dollar in 2002. Due to economical recovering machine import
ratio will increase in future (Table 9).

As shown in Table 11 in Turkey meat industry company number is 2174 and
total capacity 276191 ton per year in 2000. Annual production is 120999 ton and real
capacity level is 43,8 %. In 2002 there is 66 poultry slaughterhouse which 40 of them
are integrated plants.
Poultry industry has 1050000 ton slaughtering capacity, production is 700.000
ton per year and real capacity is 66,7 %.
According the data in 2002 year marine products company number is 78 which
their total capacity is 280.000 ton per year and real capacity is 38,59 %. Due to
changing consumer typed red meat consuming is decreased whereas poultry meat is
increased.
3.5.2. CAPACITY and PRODUCTION of MACHINERIES
There is no official and statistical data concerning meat product machinery

production. Due to last economical crisis meat production machine producer nearly
stopped their activities. In this sector main machine producer is Abant Food
Machinery Ltd. which produce 110 machine in 2002.
3.5.3. IMPORT
The import of meat industry machinery shows very deep difference in last 5
years which total import amount is 4-20 million US Dollars (Table 12).

In this sector main products are wheat flour and bread. Total wheat flour and
semolina production are total 18,7 million ton per year. Milling plant bread industry
mainly distributed all the Turkey but located Central Anatolia, Marmara, Aegean,
South East of Anatolia. Bread factory is small scale but recently big bread factory is
established all over the cities.
Pasta industry is also the other business sector in this sector. In this sector
established capacity is 1.040.000 ton per year, also production is 609.000 ton per
year. Pasta (Macaroni) factories all modern well-equipped and integrated plant and
located in South East, Aegean, Middle Anatolia.
Biscuit industry is also the other main sector include 35 plant which located in
Marmara and Middle Anatolia Their production amount is 296.000 ton per year where
as established capacity 506.000 ton per year.

As shown in Table 15, bread and pastry machine production recently is

increased and reached 3765 number in 2001. Main machine products are milling
wheat dough processing machine which producers are located in Konya, Gaziantep,
Çorum, Ankara and Istanbul cities. Last years small scale factories improve their
production become big factories or closed their activities. Machine demand will be
increased nearly 10 % in this sector.

3.7. MACHINERIES FOR SUGAR and CONFECTIONERIES

Sugar and confectioneries industry production amount is determined by

Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs inventory in 2000 (Table 18). In Turkey sugar
production 2,7 million ton in 1998, whereas decreased in 2000 to 2,250 million ton. In
Turkey main sugar raw material is sugar beet which price is increased due to sugar
beet prices.
Chewing gum, chocolate, cocoa based products were produced in small plants
which lease than 50 labour work in it. Turkish delight, halvah and confectionery
production is traditional activities mainly produced in the small scale plants. Big
factories are located in Eskişehir, Istanbul, Gaziantep, İzmir, Kocaeli, Karaman and
Konya City.

4. ANALYSIS of DEMAND
4.1. MARKET SIZE
Turkey prepare its developing plans in the duration of every five years. Every
thematic topics have special commission for report preparation. But there is no food
machine report up to now. In chapter 3; fruit and vegetable processing industry, meat
and meat product industry, bread milling, and pastry product industry, sugar and
confectionery industry production, capacity and sub-sector data were shown on the
other hand in chapter 3 food packaging machine knowledge were declared also
import and food value.
Total food sector contain 28000 food company but 500 company have more
than 50 person but others small or middle scale companies. Food sub sectors are
milling, bakery and pastry industry, meat and meat products industry, dairy and dairy
products, vegetable oil and margarine, fruit and vegetable processing industry. All
food sector production value is given in Table 25.

There is no enough parameter for food industry projection for increasing. State
Developing Plan Organisation is planning 10 % developing for food industry these
coming years. Due to new of food industry food machine demand will be increase
nearly 15 % for every year. In the sub sector most demand will be increase in the
food packaging and fruit and vegetable processing industry.
Due to take a part in the Turkish food industry, Spanish company should make
an effort for advertisement and show their machine. In this case food fairs will be
helpful or to have active distributor company which well known in the food industry.
Also price should be check concerning other countries. Generally food industry think
to import machine from Italy and Germany due to food fairs and large amount
machine import from 2 countries.
4.2. CONSUMPTION
Generally food industry owners want to buy their machine demand in domestic
company. Domestic production demand / cover ratio is 45 % in 1998 and increase
and approached to 78 % in 2002 (Table 26).
Import food machine items include new technology food machine and specific
equipment which do not make in Turkey food machine companies.

4.3. PRODUCT
In Turkey food machine production began in 1970 but needs to much effort
and labour. Except some machine like as HTST and evaporator can produce in
Turkey.
Production is made in Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Konya, Bursa, Gaziantep,
Çorum and Adapazarı city. Not only machine producers also reserve material and
equipment company number is increased which is very good food machinery for
improving their potential.
Serial production technique did not use in the food machine production
industry except bread and pastry machine production.
In Turkey recently machine producers follow world trade consumer demand
and new technology for their improvement. This issue makes prices high. In Turkey
labour and engineering prices not so high. For this reason they have advantage in
the sector competition. This good situation helps Turkish machine companies with
foreign countries for machine production through 3. group countries export and
renew activities.
Food machine producers aim was only domestic bazaar up to 1990. Export is
made to Middle East, African countries, Balkan Countries, Russian Federation and
Turkish Republics.
Food machinery production amount will be increased 12 % related to food
industry improvement. Traditional techniques like as drying, cooking drain, sorting,
breaking, mashing, mixing, dividing machine production and export value will

5. MARKETING FACTORS
5.1. DISTRIBUTION CHANNELS
All food industry machine were marketing, including producers and importers
distribute by their own branch, distributors or directly from production area.
5.2. WHOLESALE and RETAIL MARKETS
All food machine producers (producer and importer) have their own branch
and distributors which spread all over Turkey. After having order from industry,
producer send to food machine to your branch or distributor, sales were performing
by branch office. Sometimes food machine producers have special order from food
industry and marketing realised. After contracting for producing food machine;
producer and importer should mounted machine and make quarantine to repair
defects and periodical care. All these activities responsibility should kept by producer
and importer.
5.3. TRADE FAIRS of FOOD INDUSTRY
The most important and old fair of Turkey is İzmir International Fairs between
20 August to 20 September. But this fair generally is not and specialisation fair. But
since 15 years specialisation fair held in Turkey. Concerning food machine fair; every
May, September and October fairs are important which held in Istanbul. But this fair
began 10 years before. Turkey food fairs knowledge are shown below in detail.

Food Technology fairs was held in Konya, Antalya, İzmir, Gaziantep and
Bursa with local scale near main fairs.
TUYAP, HKF, CNR and COMART are the main fair organisation companies
try to spread fair to annual and international scale. For gathering domestic and
international visitors companies have big effort. As a results of their effort the number
visitors and application number will increase. Istanbul is the very suitable fair location
which gather European, Asian and African countries applicant by 2-6 hours direct
flight.
Under-secretary of Trade Exterior directive which published 31 December
2001 dated and 24627 official journal number international firm can join to fair just
only to exhibition their product. They can not sell their product retail in the fair. But
after the fair retail product could be import by the customs regulation directives.
5.4. TRANSPORT
Food machine transportation made by overland route. Concerning import and

export surface mail is desirable transportation type.
Every tax and transportation fee, insurance fee, damage fee responsibility
belong to food machine producers and importers. For this reason food machine
producers and importers arrange transportation and mounting the machine to food
industry with the operation situation.
5.5. PROMOTION and ADVERTISEMENT
Government prepared and published “State Investment Aid and Investment

Encouragement” directive dated 21 December 2000 and number 1821 for decreasing
immoderate situation, increasing employment, high technology.
For Investment encouragement directive application method and regulation is
published by Under-secretary of Trade Exterior dated 18 February 2001 and number
2001/1.
State support generally for small scale companies (name KOBİ in Turkish)
which employee numbers are 50-250 for save the nature, improving technology,
technopark, research development activities. This companies improve the
employment, value added tax, income tax. These aid contain tax, expenditure
expenses and fond credit.
At the same time state give the companies many support like as Patent and
Trade Support, Fair Supports, Research Development (AR-GE) Support, Technology
Supports, Personnel and Adviser Support, Computers and Rigging Supports, Branch
Office in Abroad Supports, Energy Supports. This directive date 23 January 1998
and number 4325. This support is given to local companies which held in the South
East and East of Turkey. Local support direction is regulated by the directive of
Council of Ministers which number 98/1. Food machine producers can get these
supports which declared in the bottom.
5.6. PRICES
Food machine prices depend on technical features which show big difference.
For this reason it is difficult to describe the food machine price.
Domestic produced food machine price is cheaper half or one third compare to
import items due to cheap labour and engineering fees. Domestic produced machine
safety and quality certificate procedure is began recently.
In domestic product quality changeable some of them is good quality, the
others is lack of quality. Due the economical crisis food industry prefers cheap
equipment. After recovering crisis food industry go towards to quality.
Spanish food machine producers still unknown in Turkish food sector. The
main food companies are Italian and German which industry has good relation with
them.
For Spanish company, most important topic is to have one distributor branch
and keep price low for promotion for racing with Italian and German company.
Spanish company food machine price should be equal nearly to Turkish producers
price. This advice is not for Spanish company also for all companies which try to go
to the Turkish food machine market. After to be well known food machine price is
became normal price.
5.7. SECTORAL JOURNAL and ASSOCIATION
There is not any food machine association and journal. But machine producers
have their association and communication address which shown below. There is
some advertisement in the food journal related food machine which shown below.

6. MARKET ACCESS
6.1. TRADE POLICY REGIME
Turkey signed an agreement with European Community concerning Custom

Regulation in 1995. At the same time Turkey try to regulate their law, trade and
technical regulation to EC.
In Turkey, import is performing due to “IMPORT REGIME” regulation which
prepared and published by Ministry Council in 31 December 1995 dated and 22510
number for improving international trade circumstances. This regulation main goal is
supporting import activities and describing import route.
All import and export activities is performing by Under-secretary of Trade
Exterior. All directives related export and import activities, collected and controlled by
Export Promotion Centre (İGEME).
All these regulate and directives same as in the food sector.
6.2. TARIFFS
Tariffs rules and directives were published instate journal by Ministry of

Council dated 31 December 1995 and 22510 number. According to directive “Custom
Tax Ratio” and “Collected Residence Fund” list were prepared. This list has 12 rung
and 94 different topic which harmonious with international nomenclature. All topics
were harmonised with EC countries regulation. Every topic has different Custom
Tariffs Statistical Number (CCCN). Every topic has different Custom Tax Ratio which
illustrated is in the Table 27.
Custom Tax Ratio is calculated for EC (European Community), EFTA
(European Free Trade Agreement) and FTA (Free Trade Agreement). This custom
tax ratio somehow different with other countries.
Food Machine List is declared in the 84 topic. Import of food machine tax zero
or none from EC (Table 27). For instance bread, pastry, biscuit tunnel has
841720100000 CCCN number. Import tax from EC and EFTA countries zero and
other countries tax is 1,7 %.
Cheese production machine and equipment’s CCCN number is

6.3. QUANTATİVE RESTRICTIONS
There is not any restrict concerning import of food machine from European
countries but there is some directives for import regulations which publish from
Exterior Trade Under-secretary.
This is one regulation dated 31 December 2001 and numbered 24627 which
published in official state Journal According to the this regulation; up the 10 years old
dairy industry machine except all food industry machine can import which CCCN
number is 8434. There is not any restrict for food machine. In the case of new
investment there is not any custom tax and valve-added fax for food machine and
equipment.
6.4. REGULATIONS
Turkey try to regulate own laws to European Countries Laws for this aim
Turkey publish 4703 number Laws which related Technical is sue. CE suitability
certificate is necessary for food machine in Turkey like as European Countries. The
main point of this law to keep safety of food machine in the domestic and import
machine.
The aim of this Law to keep safety for domestic and import machine and
equipments. Here is declared machine, different food processing machine and other
reserve equipments. New directives and regulations which published in the State
Journal is shown in Table 28 also dates and number. For instance “hot water boilers
and machine harmonised EC regulations published in the State Journal dated 31
March 2002 and with 24712 number by Industry and Trade Ministry. This regulation
will be valid after 1 year later. According the this regulation every hot water boilers
and machine producers should be attached EC code to their products.
In this transition period producers should be used either CE code or previous
regulations compulsory rules and give their product to market.
Machine safety directives also published in State Journal at 05 June 2002
numbered 24776 and CE code responsibility will begin after 18 months later. This
transition period producers are free to use either previous regulations or new
machine safety directives in their products for marketing.

8. MIDTERM and LONGTERM EXPECTATATIONS and DISCUSSION
8.1. DEMAND PROJECTIONS
Turkey is a candidate for being a port of EU signed an Ankara agreement at

1963 and Customs Union Agreement at 1995. For being main member Turkey
explained “National Programmes in the Official Journal” dated 24 March 2001 and
numbered 24352 to make its laws comforming to EU. With this programme, it stated
to accept to EU lows and a calendar for making equal its laws one to one conforming
to EU.
This program includes the studies which are anticipated to perform in short
and medium term in the period of full membership to EU.
The General Secreteriat of EU will make an effort supply the coordination
related to the application of National Programme. The public institutions, foundations
in Turkey will supply the necessaru information to the General Secretary of EU for
executing this coordination. In addition, General Secretary of EU will examine the
comformity laws which will be made.
EU opened the membership to Turkey at Helsinki Conference at 1999 and
accepted Turkey in the EU family. In the Copenhagen Meeting of EU, according to
advanced report results Turkey will be begin full membership discussion at 2004.
The State Planning Agency, prapare progress plans for the 5 years duration
and declare future projection plans. In this plan and projections include investment
predictions and demand projections. But there is not any investment predictions and
demand projections concerning food machine production and investment. Only there
are food machine and machine production demand by prepared State Planning
Agency in the duration of 1998-2002 which illustrated in Table 29.
Economical crisis of Turkey is decreased the food machin and machine
production industry demand.
Food and tobacco machine demand was decreased 8,9 % in 1998 and 25,9 %
in 2001. At the same years total food machine production industry demand is
decreased 28 %.

Food processing industry will grow nearly 10 % and demand also increase at
the same rate. In the future years; food machine demand will increase 15 % due to
new investment and renew operations.
8.2. SUPPLY PROJECTIONS
Food machine producers will continue their activity in the less production
capacity. For this reason food producers and new food industry companies not to
face any difficulties for getting new food machines. In Turkey only evaporator and
HTST equipment do not produce as a food machine. For this reason these machines
give supply difficulties to food industry whereas other food machines supply from
abroad market.
There aren’t any projections for food machine demand from State Planning
Agency. But food machine production value is shown in Table 30 for the duration of
1998-2002 years.

As shown in Table 30; food machine production was effected very less
compare to machine production sector. Food machine production decreased 13 % in
2001 whereas increased due to recovering, production increased 3,5 % in 2002.
8.3. FOREIGN TRADE PROJECTIONS
There is no data in The State Planning Agency projection related to food

machine exterior trade projection. But food machine import and export conditions
were illustrated in Table 31 for 1998-2002 years. According to Table 31. food
machine import value is decreased 47 % in 1999 and 43,5 % in 2001 respectively
whereas increased 45,8 % in 2002. After recovering the economy import value will be
increase nearly 15 %. At the same years; total machine production import ratio is not
effect from economical crisis.

As shown in Table 31; in 1999 and 2001 economical crisis decreased both
food machine production and machine production industry import and export ratio.
Food machine demand decreased 9 % and 26 % in 1999 whereas food machine
import nearly half amount. Domestic food machine production did not effect from
economical crisis.
9. POSSIBILITIES OF SPANISH COMPANIES IN TURKISH MARKET
The characteristics of Turkish food machine are as follows; cheap, simple to

use, easy to repair and maintain for these features. Food machine of Turkey is
desirable. The food machines are cheap due to labour fee, engineeering and raw
material prices. Although the food machine; which will be imported from EU
countries, are high quality, they are expensive when compared to prices of food
machines in Turkey. For this reason food machine import is generally for new food
company and some machine which impossible to get from domestic market like as
evaporator and HTST.
Domestic food machine prices are half or one third of imported machine due to
low labour and engineering prices.
In the case of Turkish food machine safety certification procedures go very
fast after Custom Union Agreement which signed with EU.
In domestic food machine product contains both quality and nonquality
machine. Due to economical crisis some food industry sector prefers cheap food
machine whereas others prefer high quality.
Food machine importation has done from Italy, Germany, Denmark from EU.
Turkish food industry and machine producers did not know Spanish food machine
producers. Turkish food producers has lack of Spanish company knowledge and their
product. Only some Turkish producers meet the Spanish food machine at some fairs
but they have no relation with them.
Most desirable way for Spanish company, they have to open Turkish branch
office for entering Turkish food machine sector. Other important topic is to decrease
their prices compare to Italy and Germany food machine product. The price of
Spanish food machine should be equal domestic prices. This is not only for Spanish
company also adviceable for all countries company for trying to enter Turkish market.
After demonstration prices will increase to normal level for food machine.
All Turkish food machine producers which make contact for this report, willing
to keep relation and cooperative study with Spanish company.
Turkish food industry is growing year by years. Spanish company should took
place in the Turkish food machine market, for this aim demonstration and
adversitement Spanish food machine companies should joined food fairs in Turkey
for improving relation with Turkish food industry.
Turkish industry remembers in the case of imported food machine only Italian
and German companies due to two country is making an effort for demonstrative
activities and fairs.
Concerning Spanish food machine most easy marketing machines are fruit
and vegetable processing machines. Because Turkey and Spain are the same
climate localisation and they have same fruit and vegetable products.
