LIFE HISTORY
EGG
Eggs are laid on the undersurface of the
leaves in circular or semicircular masses.
Freshly laid eggs are yellowish white
which later become duscky yellow.

NYMPH
Oval in shaps and brownish in colour their
bodies surrounded by white wax.

PUPA
 Pupation occurs on the leaves.

ADULT
 Palebrown with black bands on wings.

Spray femitrothion or monocrotophos@2lit./ha
(1000lit/sprayfluid ).

Tge resustant varieties of sugarcane viz. Co.


285, Co S- 385 and 1158 should be grown in
affected areas.

NATURE OF DAMAGE
Nymph and adults remains in groups on the
lower surface of leaves and suck the plant
sap. They secrete honey dew, which attract
sooty mould development. Severe attack
results in loss of sugar content in the cans to
the extent of 34% and grouth is supressed.
LIFE HISTORY
EGG
Egg are laid in clusters on the lower surface of
leave or in the leafe sheaths. Egg are covered
with white fluffy waxy filaments.
NYMPH
Soft plate pale brown dorsally and pale orange
ventrally with two tharacteristic and filaments.
ADULT
soft straw coloured with head pointing forward as
snout wings fald over the abdomen like hood.
They are densely veined and transparent.
LIFE CYCLE
MANAGEMENT
1. Release parasitoid of epiricarnia melanoleuca fl. for effective Supresssion of pyrilla .

2. Avoid exessive use of nitrogenaus fertilizers.

3. Detrash the crop 150th and 210th day after planting.

4. Set up light traps to attract and kill the adult hoppers.
