Statement of Need

With the rise of the book trailer in the publishing world, the medium of book sharing has become increasingly popular as a way of bringing readers together, as well as to new books. We, the librarians of the Don Hamerly Memorial School feel that we can successfully integrate this technology into preexisting classroom assignment the book report. llowing students to approach this classic assignment with new multimedia technology not only adds excitement to the pro!ect, but gi"es them far more creati"e flexibility and ability to express themsel"es as they share the book they ha"e read. #hese multimedia book reports can be shared beyond the classroom, linking our school with others in the community, as well as students$ work with their friends and family. #he technology we will present is accessible at different grade le"els and technological ability. #hrough this de"elopment session, we hope to add to teachers and students learning and sharing experiences in the classroom, using %lip and nimoto book trailer making software.

Proposal Brief
We propose a two hour training session with all &'( teachers and )nglish teachers for grades *'+. We intend to train teachers on %lip and nimoto software in order to in!ect such technology into a standard curriculum pro!ect the book report. With this creati"e addition to a classic assignment, we hope to encourage students to share books with one another through book trailers. #hese two software programs are accessible for all grades, as we will demonstrate through our presentation and examples. We plan to introduce teachers to the book trailer, teach them how to use %lip and nimoto software, and then break teachers into grade le"el groups to create their own sample trailers to share with the group. s we explore this de"elopment training, we hope to bring the ,S-M Standards for the ./st 0entury -earner to the teachers of this school, merging the how of the librarian$s learning standard with the what of the ,llinois teacher standard.
