Outstanding Student Recommendation Heather Allentuck student taught at Rothenberg Preparatory Academy, Cincinnati, Ohio from August 26th, 2013 through December 13th, 2013. Rothenberg Preparatory Academy a K-6 elementary school is located in the inner city of Cincinnati. The population at Rothenberg is comprised of 99% free and reduced lunch and 99% minority. Heather Allentuck was assigned a departmentalized fifth grade Math, Science and Social Studies structure of three classes. Extra duties included supervision of students, attendance at staff and committee meetings, conferences with parents and weekly reports. Heather Allentuck has shown a true sense of professionalism. Punctuality, sincerity, and dedication were evident in her daily work. The same standard was evident throughout her experience. Heather Allentuck showed an energetic attitude and maintained a professional appearance and a professional manner. Throughout her experience, Heathers lessons continued to be well thought out and showed a wide variety of child centered activities to meet the many needs of different learning styles within the classroom. Heather created numerous project based learning units. One such unit that focused on social studies and science standards; Heather had students research and create musical instruments in which she rallied the school together to bring in materials. Once everyone had created their instruments Heather orchestrated a symphony with the students. The students absolutely loved it. In another unit she designed and implemented a unit on fractions that focused on the theme of Halloween. Students had to create a Halloween house and scale it down to real size and then use various materials including cardboard to build it. Heather was a great asset in creating lessons and units that incorporated not only her own subject matter but also language arts and science. She had the kids very excited about her weekly assignment called Writing in Math where students write letters explaining math mistakes found in a variety of professional jobs. It was the students job to correct the mistake, explain the thinking process behind the mistake and then write a letter to the person who made the mistake using language arts standards for writing letters. Heathers lessons demonstrated confidence in her ability to have all students be successful learners and participants, which promoted self-confidence and a higher level of selfesteem in her students. Her kind and gentle way with the students provided a safe environment for all to learn. Heather demonstrated outstanding fairness and consistency in dealing with behavior management. The classroom climate was one of mutual respect, friendship, and a sincere understanding of each students self-esteem and ability level. In meetings with parents, Heather displayed professionalism and often added valuable information for both parents and teachers. Heathers communication skills, both with students, supervising teacher, staff and parents were excellent. Lessons were delivered with directions being clear and concise. Heather had a

gift for questioning techniques and creating scaffolding documents that really helped students follow along with guided notes or independent practice. She is well skilled in creating math stations around the room in which students work on intervention and remedial skills. I felt Heather was able to communicate with me on a professional level as well as a friendship level. This made our working relationship very comfortable. Heather would not hesitate to ask questions and was very accepting of constructive feedback and applied suggestions readily. I have truly enjoyed supervising and watching Heather mature in her teaching ability. And so it is without hesitation, and my personal opinion, that Heather will be an outstanding addition to any school faculty. Her dedication to Rothenberg, the field of education, her outstanding organizational skills, superior communication skills, and her exemplary teaching ability, leads me to believe that Heather is ready to become a successful teacher and will have much to offer the teaching profession. Sincerely, Doug Werling Cincinnati Public Schools
