Richard Matthews END OF CLASS PROCEDURE At the end of class, we all want to turn in our work and leave

in an orderly manner. Rationale: It is important that while turning in class work prior to leaving, the classroom doorway is kept open. Everyone wants to turn in their work. No one wants to be accidentally bumped into while trying to exit. Each week, a different row will have a turn at being the first excused. This procedure ensures that no one is lingering in the doorway that all leave promptly and there is no disruption while leaving the classroom. Step 1. Teacher will announce that it is time to prepare to leave. Step 2. Class will be dismissed by row or group (if working on a group project). Step 3. While one group leaves, the next gathers their belongings. Step 4. Students in that row will place their individual work folder into the class work box. Step 5. Each student will then leave the room. Step 6. If any student needs to stay after, simply remain in your seat until all others have left. Rehearse: Each row, in turn, will gather their belongings, turn in their work and return to their seats. Students should be able to accomplish all tasks and leave within three minutes. Check for understanding: Why is it important that the doorway not become obstructed? Why should classwork be turned in? How does allowing space for others show respect?
