Typically, most psychologist in different fields need a doctoral degree. Psychologists may obtain a Ph.D. in psychology or to become a Doctor of Psychology. The Ph.D. in psychology is a degree based on research, you earn this by passing a comprehensive exam and a dissertation based on work youve done yourself. For most psychology fields, you need to complete a 1-year internship for the doctoral program. Since the Pys.D. is a clinical degree you usually have to do work and exams; not a dissertation. To legally practice psychology, you have to a license or certification. If you practice independently, you must be licensed. School psychologists need a masters degree, specialists degrees require a minimum of 60 graduate hours, or a doctoral degree in school psychology.
