Alberto Beancourt (albetan) When you play melody in blocks with both hands, you are doing Full Blocks. When you perform melody in concert blocks with right hand (Melodic Voicing 3 : Concert blocks), and harmonic voicings with left, you are doing an oblique movement. Right ascends or descends with melody line and chord voicing works in a horizontal line. This style is very used in contemporary jazz, mainly employing A/B voicings in left hand and producing a great sonority to your perfomance.
Here you are playing full 8 voices blocks. Observe the linear movement during perfomance of each chord: it is oblique, right hand ascends and left hand has a horizontal movement. Do you hear it very rude for your chaste ears? Please study carefully my file about Extended chords in Albetans Area. This lesson is for adults only, for adults in jazz knowledge and for adults in piano perfomance. Before i recommend to study my files Melodic voicings 1, 2, and 3 and Harmonic voicings: A & B forms, and Extended chords. EXERCISE: Play precedent example in all keys. Play some of your favorite standards in this style. In fast passages you may play solo octaves... or octaves with a diatonic fifth between. I mean the natural fith of melody note, moving in a parallel line. So you will play fast phrases in 7 voices blocks, with a very pianistic style:
