Professional Experience
Lakeview Academy Charter School, Saratoga Springs, Utah Substitute Para-educator, Special Education, August 2013 - present As a one-on-one aide, I provide instruction, direction and companionship to insure student safety and wellbeing throughout the school day. Eagle Valley Elementary School, Eagle Mountain, Utah Para educator/Preschool Aide, August 2010 October 2011 Greeted arriving children; supervised work/study stations, playgroups and oversaw individual needs within therapy groups. Coached good manners at snack time and emphasized nutrition. Oversaw potty training and basic skills, i.e., shoe lacing, buttoning, zipping and basics like colors, numbers, letters, shapes, sizes, sounds, phonics, addition/subtraction, opposites and writing/reading readiness. Fostered empathy and compassion through games, acting, storytelling/imagination [key curriculum pieces] incorporating concepts of diversity, multiculturalism, friendship, acceptance, mutual respect.

Education
High Point High School, Beltsville, Maryland Pima Community College, Tucson, Arizona Completed a certification program for early childhood education that included course work, training and volunteer hours within a supervised onsite preschool facility for special needs 3-5 year-olds. Achieved the Deans List [an A average over two semesters] and certification for preschool teaching. Salt Lake Community College Utah General Studies Candidate (August 2014) In my final semester toward an Associates Degree (April 2013) I was inducted into the National Honor Society of Phi Theta Kappa. A scholarship through SLCC will enable transfer to a four-year college, majoring in Elementary Education with Special Ed emphasis. I have community volunteer work with several organizations working with cognitively or physically disabled children.

Additional Skills
I am the mother of a Down syndrome child who, at this time, is fully adapted to the Charter School eighth-grade classroom setting. Previously home- schooled in a K-12 online program with a team of supportive speech, occupational, and physical therapists to help with his weekly additional therapies. I have developed organizational and interpersonal skills essential to effective work with both individuals and groupsin classrooms, on boards and committees, and with parentsusing full inclusion methods with all. Ive gained insight that helps parents/students of other cultures, religions, races/ethnicities adjust more easily to the classroom setting.
