Death Penalty The death penalty is a major issue in America due to its many flaws and consequences. The death penalty is a punishment in the U.S where an individual is executed by the government because of a heinous crime committed. The issue with the Death Penalty is that it costs more money to execute the individual than to send them to prison for life. A biased and racial system is also a problem with the death penalty punishment. Statistics show that there are more black and hispanic men in death row (77% and 15% respectively) compared to whites. The fact that they dont take into consideration mental illness is a problem because there are instances and occasions where one is not capable of determining what is right or wrong. There are a few things that may lead to the death penalty however, statistics show that it not only is based on a biased system but also not worth the money needed to execute the death row inmate. People get death penalty for heinous crimes they commit. When a person kills another human being more than once they can be charged with death penalty. People who rape can be sentence to death if the jury decides if its right. Arsonist can be sentence to years in prison but if a person sets fire to a building and people die because of it they are sentence to a death penalty. In Colorado when a person is kidnapped and the kidnappers are captured they can be sentence to death penalty. If in the future the death penalty still remains then there will likely be no change in society in terms of crime rate. More money will be continue to be wasted on people that can easily be dealt with instead of executing them. When a person commits a heinous crime they normally don't care about being killed while in the process of their crime so by the government executing them as if they are doing the criminals a favor. Due to this the crime will remain undeterred. Studies conducted research on states that had the death penalty and states that didnt had a similar crime rate. During the past decade murders have around 600,000 per year both in states that have and don't have the penalty. By having the death penalty we choose to focus and waste money on people that arent of use to society and ignore problems that affect the majority of society. There is a simple solution to this problem. Simply remove the death penalty. The majority of the world has already abolished it yet we havent and we are supposed to be seen as the worlds leaders. However, by only removing the death penalty we only save money that was just wasted on people so they can be executed but thats only half of the problem. First we can remove the death penalty and then we implement a law that sentences inmates to solitary confinement if a heinous crime is committed. In other words we change the death penalty to solitary confinement to those that would meet the criteria of what was once the death penalty. The results would probably take a few years to be seen as effective by people because the studies and reports will take time to stabilize and be proven reliable but nonetheless reliable. I believe this will help the U.S by reducing crime rate and ending the death penalty as an already existing issue.. This will prove to be a better solution compared to the death penalty because solitary confinement will cause a psychological effect to the inmates that would have

once qualifies as a death row inmate. Solitary confinement is a fair punishment because we as humans crave human interaction and this solutions prohibits it. It is a fitting punishment because crimes committed against humanity should be dealt by removing that individual from humanity itself. America isn't the only country one that still uses the death penalty. Saudi Arabia is a country that still institutes the death penalty as a form of punishment. It is a bit predictable that Saudi Arabia has the death penalty still intact considering that Islam is the official religion in Saudi Arabia. The penalty can be imposed on someone for a variety of crimes. It ranges from murder, rape, witchcraft/sorcery, armed robbery, and drug use. The method of executing the criminal also vary from beheading with a sword in public, by firing squad (though rarely), and sometimes by stoning. As of 2007-2013 (up to Dec 10) there have been approximately 574 executions. which is about 82 executions per year. The popular method is beheading because its swift With one stroke of the sword I severed his head - Muhammad Saad al-Beshi (executioner). The only notable similarity between Saudi and Arabia is that both have a few similar methods for carrying out executions. In Saudi Arabia. Both countries still use firing squads as a form of execution (though rare). The U.S have only used firing squads in the more recent years if the criminal prefers that method. In Saudi Arabia it is denied that they use firing squads as a form of punishment but evidence proved otherwise. Both countries still have some sort of primitive way of execution. In America there is still a state that allows hanging (New Hampshire) only if the prisoner allows it though. In Saudi Arabia stoning is a form of punishment if adultery is committed The main difference between both countries are its present method of execution. Saudi Arabia prefers to hold public beheadings for its victims. They choose this method because it is fairly easy to conduct if done properly. In comparison the United states prefers execution through means of lethal injection. Saudi Arabia prefers beheading because of primarily the Islam religion (an eye for an eye..) but the U.S prefers lethal injection because it is more humane and less likely to cause pain or fail. Lethal injection causes the person to sleep, and then stopping the breathing and heart (respectively). In my opinion to remove the problem can be solved easily by simply removing the death penalty. However, if for some reason countries still do decide to keep the death penalty they should at least adopt the lethal injection so it can be more humane but this is highly unlikely as there are countries that are just pro-death. A solution is to remove the death penalty and instead use solitary confinement as a form of punishment. I propose this idea because not only is it less paperwork but also less expensive as all the government has to do is lock the prisoner up with no human contact. Remove the death penalty and instead put in solitary confinement as a new law. Solitary confinement is a solution that can solve the death penalty issue on a worldwide scale. This would even benefit countries that are pro death. Solitary confinement is a punishment in where an inmate is completely isolated from any human contact (23 hours a day). This should appeal to countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia and other countries where the main religion is islam because solitary confinement is worse than death. Through solitary confinement prisoners often face a mental and psychological torture by being isolated from human contact. This causes a distortion between reality and their inner thoughts of what they perceive as reality. Normally if

solitary confinement is prolonged then it would cause other mental illnesses such as dementia, insomnia, sensory deprivation, and even distortion of time perception. This is beneficial to all the countries that may still have the death penalty because not only is it cheaper and more efficient but for countries that are pro death it also tortures the inmates mentally making it appealing to them. Though at first it may seem as if there isn't any change but that is with all things. It may take a few years because prisoners that are currently in solitary confinement tend to underreport by stating that they can easily handle it. This isn't the case because as time passes they clearly show signs of someone under mental stress by seeing hallucinations, and having a distorted sense of time and reality. When the first studies are conducted there may not be much change but as a few years pass by results should be quite visible on inmates. Some other results can be hallucinations, cognitive problems, and memory loss. Once the results are published it will probably cause a placebo effect. Since the results are published by medical professionals it will cause people to think that if they commit an atrocious crime they will inevitably get mentally harmed which people perceive as worse than death making it a well rounded solution to countries that are pro death and that are wasting too much money on executing inmates that cause no change. This solution solves not only the problem with the death penalty but with crime rate as well. The death penalty wastes money on inmates that are worthless to society but by changing it to solitary confinement we save money because we don't have to worry about getting paperwork done to execute them or to feed them three times a day. Whether this solution is humane or not can be disputed just like the death penalty but this is ultimately one of the best solutions that can solve many problems in many countries. I would take action by protesting against the death penalty because killing another person is inhumane and its much cheaper. With the money saved we can spend it on society to better improve our livelihood. I will get people on my side who hates the death penalty because the more people we have the easier it will be to persuade others. I will tell the people who want a person to die that they are only going to give that person an easy way out of their crime. Also in the process waste a lot of money that could have been put to better use. I will tell them and raise awareness that solitary confinement will be a hundred times better than the death penalty.
