Hannah Rhoades Check-Point Basketball Rubric for 5 Grade Equipment: 25 basketballs, 25 pencils, 25 print outs of second sheet (rubric)

Instant Activity: Noodle Tag 5 Minutes Two taggers have half noodles to tag other students. If tagged, students must come over to the teacher and perform 10 jumping jacks before re-entering the game. Taggers will rotate on a 45 second rotation. Refinement: What is a good jumping jack? Can someone show an example? (Have a student demonstrate) Watch how their hands go all the way above their heads; I can tell if you are doing a good jumping jack by hearing your hands clap above your head! Main Activity: Individual Basketball Skills 25 Minutes Students will be given a rubric and pencil to evaluate their ability Two stations will be going at the same time: Dribbling and Shooting, Passing and Ball Handling. Students will participate in the station for 5 minute intervals, working on their skill throughout the time period and reflecting on their ability using the rubric. In the passing station, students only evaluate themselves, but will need a partner to work on each pass. Did you improve through your station? What do you need to work on? Write down your goals and successes of each station. (This will be done at the 3 minute mark of each station). At the end of the rotations, students will do a final reflection, then turn in their rubric. Safety: Be aware everyone has a basketball and is working individually, focus on your own basketball and be conscious of those around you. Using proper form when passing, shooting, and dribbling can prevent stubbed fingers. Follow the cues! Assessment: Students will be using the rubric while I informally observe and assess progress while moving throughout the area. Cool Down Stretch: 5 Minutes The teacher will lead all students in cool down stretching Psychomotor Objective: Each student will be able to participate in the skill successfully at their own rate. No milestone is required, but improvement should be marked on their rubric at each station. Cognitive Objective: By the end of the lesson, each student should have a reflection stating some form of improvement on their rubric. Affective Objective: Students will be able to participate continually and stay positive through the evaluation activity stations, and not give up.
