Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh Receives $5,000 AT&T Contribution to Help Teens Prepare for Workforce
Career Launch Program Focuses on Building Job Skills, Career Planning
OSHKOSH, Wednesday, March 26, 2014 The Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh was presented with a $5,000 AT&T contribution today to support the Clubs career development program for teens. The funding through AT&Ts Aspire program will support the Clubs Career Launch program. The goal of the program is to introduce teens to the working world and help them develop skills essential for workforce success. Through our Career Launch program, we help teens assess their vocational interests, explore different career paths, and develop key skill sets that employers are looking for, said Tim Costello, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh. We are committed to helping teens develop the skills that are relevant to the work force to assist them in navigating a very competitive job market and to help prepare them for success in the 21st Century economy. The Career Launch program helps teens ages 13-18 assess their skills and interests, explore careers and make sound educational decisions that help prepare them to graduate from high school and either attend college or join the workforce. The program provides a range of career readiness services. In 2014, Club members will participate in workshops on resume building, networking, branding, having a positive online presence, and how to dress professionally. Club staff will also assist members with job applications, mock interviews, college applications, ACT prep, and take members on college tours, said Costello. We are grateful for AT&Ts support to help us offer this successful program to area teens. About 100 teens participated in last years Career Launch program. Some of the program features include a Teen Tips booklet that provides helpful job hunting and on-the-job tips and a Career Launch website that allows teens to explore career opportunities that match their interests.

The Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh is doing fantastic work to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in our future workforce, said State Senator Richard Gudex (R-Fond du Lac). Our young people are our future leaders, and this program helps youth graduate from high school ready for the working world. As a company, AT&T has a long-standing commitment to helping advance education. The AT&T Aspire program is one of the nations largest corporate initiatives committed to helping more students graduate from high school ready for college and careers. AT&T is proud to support the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkoshs efforts to engage young people early in career opportunities and workforce readiness, said Scott T. VanderSanden, president of AT&T Wisconsin. As a company, we are committed to education and workforce development, and this program is a great way to support both.
