FRONT ROW Has your child introduced you to our newest math iPad app Front Row? Look for it in the app store as Common Core Math for Teachers by Front Row. Students can access their account online too. We took an online pre-assessment in class, so their assignments are differentiated based on their own needs. There are digital manipulatives, work space, re-teaching videos and more. Additionally, Im receiving weekly reports to show individual student growth and accomplishments. Please use our classroom code, Q4QN2A to access student assignments online or from the FRONT ROW free app.

Save the dates:

EKD ART GALA will be on April 10th to support Apples for the Children Organization which works with local child care programs. We will be collecting donations for APPLES, such as: books, art supplies, tissues and pump soap. Our class has created several pieces for the GALA, so you wont want to miss this event! EKD Family Literacy Night will be at Washington County Public Library in Hagerstown on April 24th from 4pm-6pm. I encourage all students to attend to showcase their author study project, participate in make-it-take -it projects, listen to read alouds with Wizard of Oz characters from Barbara Ingram and enjoy all the library

Journeys and Destinations

After spring break, we will begin marking period 4 with a unit developed by the Center for Gifted Education at The College of William and Mary. The unifying theme throughout the unit is CHANGE. We will integrate this literacy theme into world issues and problems as we also begin Economics in Social Studies. You will see components of the unit as homework, specifically our group literature book, The Green Book. We will be working in literature discussion groups with interpretive and reasoning questions, in addition to looking closely at challenging vocabulary. If there is a time when your child is unable to complete the reading assignment throughout the week, please make a note in the planner. It is important for us to all be prepared for our discussion groups.

MATH FACT FOCUS

We have 11 students out of 21 that have joined our Fact Fanatics group in our class. These students have completed all 28 math fact levels! I know we can have 100% of our class master their facts by June with continued practice. We will begin to have small pullout groups to practice with students that are working on levels 18 and 19. Please let know if you need additional ideas for practice at home. We will be spending time in class with fact fluency for those still working to accomplish their goals.

EKD and several members of our class are featured on the Maryland Public Television PARCC video . Look for the video link on the homepage of our class website, ekdmagnet3.weebly.com.
