because know how important A. . !u"ont %ospital is to !elaware and how much volunteering is needed to help this hospital. As a newborn, had to go to A. . !u"ont %ospital weekly to receive treatment for dislocated hips and reali@e that without the support and compassion from others my care there would not have been as good as it was. think the idea of individual development and the idea of volunteering to a fourth grade student may be a foreign concept. 8any younger children do not get the opportunity to volunteer because of age re+uirements at certain establishments. ,y giving the students an opportunity to volunteer in class and learn what volunteering really means and does for others, believe this will make the students understand other social studies concepts better like life in other countries and certain history concepts like the #ivil -ights Act and 'omen$s Suffrage. 'hile do believe some students may not get the concept of volunteering at first or may not have enough e*perience with volunteering to have a lengthy discussion in the beginning about it after making the get well soon cards, do believe the students will understand the concept.
