Ir, hacer, ver, dar, and ser in the preterite

So far, we have learned ar verbs in the preterite. Remember that the preterite is a past tense in Spanish. Ir-to go Ser-to be Hacer-to do/to make Dar-to give Ver-to see

These verbs are ALL irregular which means that you must memorize each one of them and their forms. They do not follow a pattern that is consistent. Study Study Study! The preterite is FULL of irregular verbs and require a lot of memorization.

Ir-to go Yo fui (I went) T fuiste (You went) Ud./l/ella fue (You/he/she went) Nosotros fuimos (we went) Vosotros fuisteis (Yall went) Uds./ellos/ellas fueron (Yall went, They went)

Ex. Yo fui a la playa ayer.-I went to the beach yesterday.

Ser-to be Ser and ir have the same conjugations. Context clues will let you know if you are using ser or ir. Yo fui ( I was) T fuiste (You were) Ud./l/ella fue (You/He/she was) Nosotros fuimos (we were) Vosotros fuisteis (Yall were) Uds./ellos/ellas fueron (Yall were, They were)

Ex. La clase fue divertida. The class was fun.

Hacer (to do/to make) Yo hice ( I made/I did) T hiciste (You made/You did) Ud./l/ella hizo (You/he/she made/did) Ex. Yo hice la tarea. I did the homework. Nosotros hicimos (we made/did) Vosotros hicisteis (Yall did/made) Uds./ellos/ellas hicieron (Yall/They did/made)

Dar (To give) Yo di (I gave) T diste (You gave) Ud./l/ella dio (You/he/she gave) Nosotros dimos (We gave) Vosotros disteis (Yall gave) Uds./ellos/ellas dieron (Yall/They gave)

Ex. Ella me dio un regalo. She gave me a gift. Ver (To see) Yo vi (I saw) T viste (You saw) Ud./l/ella vio (You/he/she saw) Ex. Yo vi la pelcula Shrek. Nosotros vimos (we saw) Vosotros visteis (Yall saw) Uds./ellos/ellas vieron (yall/they saw)
