PARTS OF A PLANT

All parts have parts. The parts of a plant are roots, stems, and leaves.

ROOTS
Hold plants in place. They absorb water and minerals from the soil.

It supports the plants. It holds the leaves, flowers and carries the water and mineral fruits. It carries the water and minerals absorbed by the roots from the soil to the different parts of the plant.

LEAVES
It manufacture food for the plants using the energy of sunlight. They combine water from the soil with carbon dioxide from the air to form sugar, the starting material to produce the other forms of food.

FLOWERS
It is the reproductive structure of the plant. IT is important in producing new plants. It produces the fruits and seeds that grow ino new plants

Some plants bear fruits. Some fruits contain seed.

The seed is the start of the new plant. When seeds are planted and receive sunlight, water, and air, they grow into young plants.

Flowers
The flowers have similarities and differences. They may have the same or different shape, size, color, texture and smell.
The petals of a flower could be yellow, white, pink, red orange, or violet. Sampaguita and rosal are both white, while there are roses of different colors.

Flowers
There shapes could be round or elongated. There sizes also vary. There are small and big flowers. The santan and sampaguita are both small. The rose and gumamela differ in size.

Flowers
There smell differ, too. There are flowers that smell good, bad or have very slight smell. The roses and orchids both smell good. The amarilyo smells bad while the anthurium has a slight smell. Thay are very different from one another.

Flowers
Flowers may also have similar or different texture. Some are smooth; others are velvety like the rose and orchid. The anthuium and the flower of squash differ. The anthurium is smooth while the squash floweris prickly.

Flowering and Non-Flowering Plants

Flowering and Non-flowering Plants

Flowering plants bear flowers. Example:

santan gumamela sampaguita

roses

Flowering and Non-flowering Plants

Fruit bearing plants are flowering plants, too. They bear flowers that mature into fruits. Examples

mango

santol

pomelo

Flowering and Non-flowering Plants

Non-Flowering Plants Plants do not bear flowers. Example

ferns

mosses

Propagating Plants

Propagating Plants
By cuttings A cutting is a piece of the source plant.

camote Fortune plant

We can grow a cutting by soaking it in water till it grows roots, before planting it.

We can also propagate a cutting by directly planting it in the soil.

Propagating Plants
There are plants that grow from underground stems called rhizomes. We can propagate by cutting a piece of the stem and planting it. Example ginger

Propagating Plants
There are plants that grow rom bulbs. A bulb is a group of short and thick leaves packed close together. When they are soaked in water, roots grow downward and leaves come out. Then they are planted in the soil. Example: onion

Propagating Plants
There are plants that grow from stems. Enlarge underground stems are called tubers. We can propagate tubers by soaking them in water. When the shoots and roots come out, we plants them in soil. Example potato

Precautionary Measures in Handling Plants

Precautionary Measures in Handling Plants

Some plants have thorns and sharp serrated leaves that can cut your skin. They have hairs and secretions that can cause allergy or skin rashes. Others are poisonous.

Precautionary Measures in Handling Plants

Be careful in handling with thorns and sharp serrated leaves. They can cut your skin. If you do, wash it properly and put anti-infection cream and bandage it.
