Talia Kostal Honors 100 Section October 22, 2011 Four-Year Plan: MAJOR: Medical Anthropology and Global Health with College Honors Three Courses I look forward to taking:
1.

ART 201 Introduction to Ceramics Handbuilding (5) VLPA (Course description from UW course catalogue): Introduces a variety of ceramic handbuilding and surface processes with an emphasis on problem solving and self- expression. Includes examination of contemporary sculpture in clay. a. I love art. In high school I never had room in my schedule to take many art classes. However, from the few classes that I was able to take, I discovered that I particularly enjoyed clay sculpture. Art 201 will give me the opportunity to continue to explore this interest. Additionally, it is a class which has nothing to do with my major, and that makes me excited! ANTH 308 Anthropology of Womens Health and Reproduction (5) I&S Chapman (Course description from UW course catalogue): Introduction to anthropological approaches to womens health, addressing womens health status and participation in healthcare. bodies and sexuality, social policy in relation to gender, race, ethnicity, and class. Emphasis on how the politics of gender shapes womens experiences of health care institutions in the U.S. a. I want to make sure to take Anth 308. I am currently enrolled in Anth 215, also taught by Professor Chapman. It is by far my favorite class. She is a wonderful teacher. I am interested in womens health issues, and to have another chance to be taught by Prof. Chapman is an opportunity which I do not want to miss. 3. BIO A 495 Growth and Development: Infancy (5) NW (Course description from UW course catalogue): New- ell Genetic and environmental influences on growth and development from prenatal life through infancy. Includes exploration of methods for assessing development and comparisons of development in nonhuman primates with human development. Prerequisite: BIO A 370. a. I am interested in and excited about taking Bio A 495 because it pertains directly to my interests and my major. I want to make sure I do not miss out on this class because I am interested in understanding human growth patterns, especially in infants. In the future I hope to become a Neonatologist, and I think this class would give me a different perspective on infancy.
