7 11/13/13 PHOTOSYNTHEISI SUMMATIVE PROJECT PROBLEM: If you double the distance of light, will the rate of photosynthesis will decrease by half? Hypothesis: Maybe if you double the amount of light, the rate of photosynthesis will decrease by half. Theory: Photosynthesis is the processed by making oxygen and then taking in carbon dioxide (CO2) and producing the carbon dioxide into oxygen with the process of cellular respiration. And photosynthesis also makes glucose from water, the water that the root carries through the green pigments and the water is made into glucose and the glucose help the plant thrive. PROCEDURE: For Light Intensity 1. Measure and cut at an angle elodea 7 to 9 cm. 2. Remove a few leaves from end of stem and slightly crush end of stem. 3. Measure mass in grams and record. 4. Put elodea stem side up in a test tube. 5. Fill test tube with water and baking soda solution (1 tsp to 100 mL of water). 6. Put tube in rack and adjust lamp 5 cm from top of test tube. 7. Turn on lamp and wait 1 minute. 8. After 1 minute, begin counting small, medium and large bubbles for 3 minutes. Record data. 9. Repeat at 10 cm with same size and mass elodea 10. Repeat for Trial 2 DATA/OBSERVATIONS: Trial 1 ___grams Small x 1 Distance Oxygen Produced in 3 minutes at 5 and 10 cm Medium x 2 Large x 3 Total

Conclusion: In this lab my group and I wanted to see that if we doubled the distance of light, will the rate of photosynthesis will decrease by 50%. I hypothesized that if we double the amount of light, the rate of photosynthesis will decrease by 50%. My data shows me that there was a 42.9% decrease, which is really low. In the end of the lab my found that hypothesis was correct. Analysis: In this lab I saw that my data was decrease because when our group got the results back I was a little perplex by the amount of decrease we got in our first trial. When I thought this I was starting to think that my hypothesis would be correct, but my group was doing a bad job on counting the bubbles and I am still thing that we would have had a different decrease or increase.
