March 15, 2014 RE: Kallie Lapp, Candidate for Elementary Teaching Position

From: Julie Miller, Principal Wasatch Elementary, SLCSD To Whom It May Concern: I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to Kallie Lapp who is completing her student teaching experience in second grade at Wasatch Elementary School. It is a pleasure to write a letter of recommendation for Kallie because we recognize her as one of our top teacher candidates. Wasatch is an urban school in the heart of Salt Lake City. We serve a growing number of students from all spectrums of socio-economic status; Kallie seems more than competent to manage student diversity and a wide range of academic ability in the classroom. Kallie's professionalism and dedication to children is apparent to all who observe her teaching. She is organized, well prepared every day, and demonstrates knowledge of effective instruction in core content areas. At Wasatch, we use StoryTown for literacy instruction and Expressions for math. Kallie understands how to use both of these programs. The pace of her instruction is appropriate for young children and learning objectives are clear. Kallie is enthusiastic and at ease in the classroom. Parents have appreciated her talents in their child's classroom. Kallie has developed a wonderful relationship with her mentor teacher, as well as other members of our faculty. She works collaboratively with all Wasatch staff, and invested time learning our arts curriculum and how to best integrate arts learning with State Core content. Kallie manages school days efficiently and effectively. There are no areas of instruction that need obvious improvement. She understands how to use data to monitor student progress, and she is able to adjust the pace and review of instruction to meet student's needs. Kallie is an extremely strong teacher candidate whose skills are well-advanced beyond many novice teachers. I strongly recommend her to any district seeking an outstanding new teacher. If you have any questions regarding her performance, please contact me or her mentor teacher, Jo Lloyd, by phone or email: Julie.miller(5>slcschools.org
