Identify topics-important for students to understand and they have some knowledge of the topic Specify Learning Objectives- must be clear, objectives will guide your thinking Examples and Nonexamples-they must best illustrate the characteristics of this concept Sequence Examples and Nonexamples- offer a range of hypotheses to develop their concepts
Phase 1: Introduction-lessons need careful instruction so students become comfortable with the process Phase 2: Examples and hypothesizing-show an example and nonexample and see if the students can figure out the concept Phase 3:The analysis Cycleshow examples and nonexamples to help students develop critical thinking and elaborate of the existing hypothesis Phase 4: Closure and Application- students must identify key characteristics of the concept, state, definition
After the lesson, the teacher can provide the students with additional examples and nonexamples and have the students explain why or why not Also have students provide examples of their own (helps the students better understand the concept) Can also have students create concept maps to better understand the subject
Since they are intellectual puzzles they can be motivating because they are intriguing and cause curiosity Also motivation can be done with groupwork which increases student involvement This model can also be used to increase students metacognition(control over mental processes) and self-regulation (mental strategies used to improve thinking and learning
This is very important in regards to getting students to thoroughly understand a concept that is worthy of the students to understand. A great model to really get the students minds stirring and thinking.
