Reading achievements in deaf school leavers: a pilot study

This exciting project is looking at reading skills in deaf school leavers. The last time this was investigated in the UK was back in 1979. We want to understand more about how deaf teenagers read and be able to report their achievements as well as help those who are struggling.

We are looking for severely and profoundly deaf adolescents in Years 10 and 11 to take part in this study. They will be asked to complete several reading tests and short assessments of vocabulary, speechreading and non-verbal intelligence.

Do you work with or know any deaf adolescents who may be able to take part? Or would you like to know more about the project? If so, please contact Dr Fiona Kyle on Fiona.Kyle.1@city.ac.uk, 020 7040 4134 or at the address below.
This study has been approved by City University London School of Health Sciences Research Ethics Committee. Dr Fiona Kyle, Lecturer in Language and Communication Science, City University London, Northampton Square, London EC1V 0HB
