About Me I grew up in North Carolina and Colorado and then moved to Tucson in 2004. I graduated from U of A with a degree in chemistry, previously worked at a honey bee research center, and now Im working on my Masters degree in teaching and teacher education through UAs Teach Arizona program. I love animals, music, recycling, and cheesy chemistry jokes! Semester Topics Stoichiometry Molecular Molarity Gas Laws Acids and Bases Oxidation Thermochemistry Helpful Study Habits Make (and use!) flashcards Teach the material to someone else Practice! Study with a group Dont be afraid to ask for help http://www.khanacademy.org/science/chemistry Grade Breakdown Each quarter is worth 40% of your semester grade, and the final exam is the remaining 20%. Each quarter will be graded based on the following assignments and scale: Bell work Quizzes Homework/Classwork Laboratory Tests 5% 5% 30% 25% 35% Grading Scale 90-100% 80-89.99% 70-79.99% 60-69.99% 0-59.99% A B C D F Materials to Bring to Class: Pencil or pen Geometry Loose leaf paper Dry erase marker 3-ring binder (1.5 inches minimum) Scientific calculator (graphing is ok) Reduction Binder

Bell work (5% of quarter grade) Bell work serves as a way to refresh your memory about things we talked about the day before. It will be collected every other Friday. Quizzes (5% of quarter grade) Quizzes will be given every other Friday and will be very similar to bell work. If you were able to do those questions, you should be able to get a 100% on the quizzes! Homework/Classwork (30% of quarter grade) Homework will be collected on its due date! All work and units must be shown in order to get full credit. Late work will receive a maximum of half credit. Laboratory (25% of quarter grade) Some class periods will be reserved for working in the lab. You must follow safe lab practices (closed toe shoes, hair tied back, goggles, etc.) while performing experiments! Tests (35% of quarter grade) Tests will be given at the end of each unit of study. Chemistry builds on itself, so get help early on if you feel you are falling behind. Final Exam (20% of semester grade) The final exam will be very similar to the tests and quizzes. Make sure to hold on to your assignments throughout the semester so you can use them as a study tool! Extra Credit Extra credit opportunities will be given throughout the semester. Its important to take advantage of these assignments if you are worried about your grade! Absences Please see me on your first day back to class in order to get any assignments, notes, or handouts you missed. You are welcome to e-mail me while you are out in order to get a head start on your missed work.
