Andy Van Patten FHS 2600 Literacy Reflection After going through the list of things that improve

a childs literacy and marking what I found in our classroom, I found that our room covers almost all of the things to improve a childs literacy. In a practical classroom it would be hard to achieve everything on the list. I think that, although it would be nice to have everything on the list, it is not necessary for them all to be there. Some of the key things that were on the list that I think are absolutely necessary for a classroom to have include: A comfortable place to look at books, materials to write on and to write with, variety of fictional and non-fictional books, and a bookshelf to display books with covers facing out. In my opinion these things should be required in all classrooms. These things are so powerful when it comes to making your classroom developmentally appropriate. Lastly, there are things on the list that I feel are not mandatory in a classroom. If a classroom does not have a designated area for listening to music and books on tape, it does not mean that the classroom is not developmentally appropriate, it simply means that you are not capable in the physical environment to accommodate all of the textbooks ways of appealing to a childs developmental needs. This is why I am confident in saying that our classroom covers all of the necessary areas that a child needs to get the most out of their learning
