WIDA Standard: Language of Language Arts Overview of Activity (explanation/instructions): Students are in groups of four playing the Long Vowel Race board game. Long vowel picture cards are passed out to students evenly. First player spins the spinner wheel and says out loud which ever letter the spinner lands on. Then, the player must find the picture card that has that long vowel in it, and say the picture out loud. For example: spinner lands on I, student says (long vowel) I out loud, then finds a picture card with the corresponding long vowel and says the picture out loud Lightning I for Lightning. Player then discards card, and moves forward on the board. Players who do not have a picture card that matches the long vowel that the spinner picked do not move forward on the board. Game ends when a player runs out of cards. Artifacts All materials and documents needed to deliver your activity (instructions for students, handouts, realia, technology, examples, etc.):
