Reflection: The artifact that I chose to represent Standard Seven: Assessment is an example a SER (Summary, Evaluation, Reflection) document

that I wrote while in my five-week take-over. The write-ups include a summary, evaluation, and reflection of a specific activity or lesson I taught related to my project (based on The Project Approach.) This artifact demonstrates my ability to make decisions after deep reflection and assessment. It reflects how can adjust future lessons to meet the needs of each student while understanding their learning needs and potential. The SER artifact also, demonstrates my ability to use a variety of assessments during and after lessons to monitor student progress and understanding. This artifact accurately represents how I competently reflect Knowledge Indicator G because it has helped me be aware of how to make data-driven decisions using my assessment results to adjust practices in order to meet the needs of each student. The process of writing the Summary, Evaluation, and Reflection, for every lesson has enabled me reflect and assess myself in order to gain further knowledge of what is successful. I have included a week of SER lesson write-ups in which I was able to self reflect and understand the students ability to comprehend. Every day I took what I gained from the previous lesson and my growing awareness of my students to create more effective lessons. I discuss the difficulties the children had in initial SERs and how I used my understanding of what made them struggle to restructure my teaching to make more comprehensive and understandable lessons. In my reflection, I discuss ways to adjust for the next time I would teach this particular lesson, however I am always thinking about way to improve my teaching of these particular students. In the following days lessons I was able to adjust the lessons by slowing them down and honing in on what I truly wanting the students to accomplish for the lesson. Creating these SERs allowed for me to assess the activity and the students participation, involvement, among other things. It exemplifies how I will readjust my teaching practices to meet the goals and needs of my students. Through this artifact I have demonstrated Performance Indicator B, and how I am a competent teacher with the ability to use a variety of formal and informal assessments to evaluate the understanding, progress, and performance of an individual student and the class as a whole. The evaluation section I wrote is representative of the different types of informal assessments I did to evaluate my teaching and the childrens learning. I reflected and showed evidence of whether or not the goals were achieved. For example, I knew that in the Domino lesson, I had too many goals and that the students werent given enough direction on my part (in the second SER.) Many of my goals were not achieved because of my communication. I also had not given enough a control in the experiment. I took this information and understood that I cant have so many directions for the students. I need to focus on one goal I hope for the students to achieve by the end of the lesson and really work towards the success in achieving this understanding. This informal assessment was allowed me to make major strives in the remainder of my unit. Evaluating and reflecting on a particular activity shows my ability to use informal assessment to understand the performance or progress of the whole class and individuals during the lessons. This artifact demonstrates my growth and development as a teacher because I reflect and assess my methods of teaching while also understanding my students growth and development. Summarizing, evaluating, and reflecting upon a particular activity is a great way of informally assessing the students. The SERs helped me understand how to adjust my teaching and value the many ways of assessment. A good teacher evaluates the understanding, progress, and performance of a whole class and the individual students. The steps needed to complete the SERs

allowed me to adjust and rethink my teaching for future lessons. I was aware of the children and myself in my class and the efforts I had to make to create success. Being able to self reflect and think critically about ones performance, while also informally assessing students is an important skill in helping every child succeed in the classroom.
