VITALS FUNDAMENTALS BASEBALL TRAINING


Mission Statement Our purpose is to educate and train inner city youth on the fundamentals of baseball. Provide professional instruction in all aspects of the game. Kids will develop the proper mechanics, skills and knowledge of the game. Our training regiment also educates youth on the rules of the game, sportsmanship, and respect of the game. This will be done while maintaining a healthy environment for the kids to reach higher skill levels to compete and continue to master the fundamentals of the game. Fundamental Training Includes but is not limited to: Hitting, Throwing, Fielding, Running Hitting- Being able to effectively hit the ball using hand eye coordination and timing are key elements. Here are some key aspects of hitting that KVFBT will train. a. b. c. d. e. f. g. Batting Stance Balance- 50/50; 60/40 styles; knowing your strike zone. Head Position in order to track ball through the zone. Load Position (body forward, hands back) Stride and its importance. Balanced movement towards baseball. Weight shifted from back side to center. Hip rotation: pull/ punch mechanics; Bat path, head at the point of contact. (watch the ball hit the bat) Finishing through with contact before running out of batters box.

Fielding- good solid defense requires a high level of mental toughness to stay in front of the ball knock it down and make the play. Here are some key aspects that KVFBT will train. a. b. c. d. e. Being in an athletic position and always expecting the ball to come to you. Ground ball techniques forehand; backhand; routine. Double play techniques; (routine on corners, middle infielders foot work around bag. Catcher blocking drills and techniques. Train first baseman on soft hand drills for short hops. Footwork around bag adjusting to difficult throws. f. Teach proper outfield footwork on fly balls, do or die throwing to bases/home. Basic relay and cut off fundamentals.

Throwing- establish good throwing habits/ mechanics that will increase arm strength and endurance. a. b. c. d. e. f. Teach correct ball grip. (4 seam /2seam) Discover comfortable arm slot that will be conducive to preventing arm injuries. Teach the significance of balance, arm slot, footwork, and athletic position. Train on a specific release point that allows for accuracy. Work on maintain consistent accuracy for extended periods of time. Arm strength exercises and drills (short and long toss)

Running proper running mechanics allows for athlete to reach faster running potential. a. b. c. d. e. Enhance 60 yard dash time using plyometric and agility dynamics. Help increase quick twitch performance. Train fundamental base running skills. (home to 2nd , 2nd to home, 1st to 3rd) Teach fundamental base stealing techniques. Develop base running awareness and instincts.

K. Vital Fundamentals Baseball Training is an affiliated partner withScholarS&Athletes, which is a non-profit organization that also serves as a student athlete mentor program. The non-profit focuses students who are actively enrolled in school that have a desire or may be actively playing sports. Catering to provide a plate form to help kids identify the responsibilities of being a student athlete. Providing an environment structured to share valuable information that will come from present and past student athletes. The athletes will share the amount of focus, dedication, perseverance, discipline, and determination it takes to fulfill the obligation of being not only a good but a great student athlete. The participating former athletes and coaches will come to share their philosophies and give their insight and knowledge of being a student athlete. They also will share their experiences of how sports impacted their life. These sports figures and coaches will serve as role models to spark the interest back into the life of the inner city teens. The mentor aspect of the program will focus on the following: a. b. c. d. e. f. g. h. Improve personal communication skills. Develop a more interpersonal awareness of self, family and community. Provide anger management when necessary. Allow youth to take responsibility for their actions. Be able to identify and recognize Negro League Baseball/ Major League Baseball. Understand the statistics on the number of Black Americans in baseball today. Identify the significance of: Grade Point Average, ACT/SAT scores, NCAA/NAIA Eligibility Understand the concept of baseball and how it relates to everyday life.
