In our science class this year we have looked closely at the different aspects of science and the experiments

that we can perform using the skills we have obtained in our unit Im a Scientist Now. One of our main focuses this term was Particle Theory where we looked at solids liquids and gases and explored their different states. We learned that everything is made up of matter and everything takes up space. Inside everything are lots of little atoms with a specific structure that involves protons, neutrons and electrons. Atoms are inside of everything and make up matter. The atoms that make up a solid are tightly packed together and hardly move. The atoms that make up a liquid are free flowing and slightly spread apart. The atoms that make up a gas are wide spread and they move around all the time. In class we made hot air balloons to experiment with what happens when you heat the air inside the balloon. Although the experiment was unsuccessful we established that when air is heated the hot air balloon will rise. Along with exploring The Particle Theory we looked at graphing and heating water. We also looked closely at the structure of an experiment eg. aim, hypothesis, equipment list, risk assessment, diagram, steps, results, discussion and conclusion. We applied this to our experiment with heating water to 100 degrees. In class we have also did an experiment on making gak. To make gak we used cornflour and water. If you add too much water the gak would go all watery. We explored what happens when you apply pressure to the gak. If you punched the gak really fast the gak would harden, when you placed your hand in the gak slowly it would feel watery. So far this term we have learnt about a lot of things that are useful for the rest of our time in school. We have really enjoyed what we have learnt so far and cant wait to learn more.
