Breathing in with the Respiratory System

By: Naomi Weisner

The Respiratory System is ready to work 24/7. To bring the oxygen to lungs, to exhaling carbon dioxide out. When oxygen gets inhaled, oxygen first travels down the sinus, then the larynx. After the oxygen travels down a tube which is called the trachea, next, the oxygen gets split up into one of the lungs by the Bronchi. Once the oxygen enters the lungs, the travels down long narrow tubes called bronchiole tubes, Finally the oxygen reaches the alveoli that are covered in capillaries. At the Alveoli, red blood cells come to pick up the oxygen, while they drop off the carbon dioxide. Then, the carbon dioxide does the total opposite. As you inhale and exhale, your Respiratory System is doing its functions, the functions include: Helping us breath, inhaling the oxygen and exhaling the carbon dioxide. The Respiratory System also interacts with other systems too! The Respiratory System interacts with the Circulatory System by the heart. After the red blood cells pick the oxygen at the capillaries, they travel to the heart, which pumps the blood all around the body. The

Respiratory System interacts with the Muscular System by the diaphragm. When you inhale and exhale the diaphragm is helping you get in the air and push it out. The Respiratory System interacts with the Skeletal System by the ribcage. The ribcage many bone that cage the lungs. All that coughing and wheezing is holding back what I want to say about the diseases that happen in the Respiratory System. Lung Cancer is one of them. Most smokers get lungs cancer. The side effects are coughing, wheezing and dying 15 to 30 years early. The other disease is Asthma. The cause is by inborn or an inflamed bronchus. Side effects include: wheezing, coughing, an asthma attack, tightness in the chest and shortness of breath. During an asthma attack, your air ways swell up, making it very narrow and hard for oxygen to come in and out. If you have an asthma attack, you will need an inhaler. An inhaler is the medition to stop the air ways from swelling up. To keep your lungs in shape, you will need to make sure you follow these steps. First, never smoke because you will get lung cancer and your cilia in your lungs will be covered in tar and your lungs will become black. Second, do daily exercise for at least 15-30 minutes each day to keep you lungs in shape. Last, dont hold your breath for too long or your muscles wont get as much oxygen.

I find the Respiratory System pretty important. So make sure that you dont get it injured or a disease around the Respiratory System. So remember keep breathing and moving along.
