sizes, angles, focus, movement, style! !how do these elements contribute to representation - consider when the director uses close-ups or wide shots? Why a high angle is used or how a tracking shot might inuence our understanding of how the character is represented!

set design, props, costume, make-up, lighting, colours, materials, style! ! how do these elements affect our understanding of the specic representation asked?! ! really look closely at the details, iconography, elements of the set or props in the foreground and background as well as the costumes - mise en scene is seldom random!

Sound! !
! music,

dialogue, voice over, sound effects, volume, dynamics, tone, accent, dialect, expressions, diegetic, non-diegetic! ! really note the language used and the way it is said: vital in establishing status, relationships, region, nationality! ! often music tells us about a characters status and sometimes a lot more! ! sound effects - really listen to what is happening in the background!

from shot to shot, juxtaposition of images to create meaning, exact timing of cuts in relation to dialogue, narrative, music etc.! !Editing focusses our eye on the meaning and how that meaning is created through the combination of shots!
