HIV/AIDS pandemic is currently the most socio-economic challenge that is facing the world at large as it affects mostly the

young and economically productive population. To what e tent has the traditional approach !een appreciated and how can it !e enhanced in the fight against HIV/AIDS. It is for this purpose that this paper discusses an e tent to which the traditional approach !een appreciated and how it can !e enhanced in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The paper concludes that given the necessary support" traditional healers can !e integrated into research that will give hope to the entire human race in the control of HIV/AIDS. Traditional medicine refers to health practices" approaches" #nowledge and !eliefs incorporating plant" animal and mineral !ased medicines" spiritual therapies" manual techni$ues and e ercises" applied singularly or in com!ination to treat" diagnose and prevent illnesses or maintain well!eing %&iller'())*+ Traditional ,olitical Authorities %T,As+ have often !een circumvented in health and development programmes" especially when foreign donor funds are involved. -et T,As are often eager to colla!orate in efforts that can potentially !enefit their areas of authority. This Study aims to develop effective !ehaviour change interventions !y involving T,As and tapping into their wisdom" e perience and indigenous cultural #nowledge. Specifically" it aims to find culturally sensitive ways to influence se ual !ehaviour and improve gender relations in ways that reduce violence against women and girls" and reduces ris# of HIV infection %.wumi'())*+.
