Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact Rationale/Reflection

InTASC Standard #2: Learning Differences

The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that enable each learner to meet high standards.

Brief Description of Evidence:

This is a concept map that I created in fall 2013 for my EDUC 201 course. It is titled Technology for Diverse Learners and it showcases multiple ways that technology can be utilized to assist children with learning differences such as special and exceptional needs, culturally and linguistically diverse.

Analysis of What I Learned:

I have learned that it is very important to understand and identify multiple approaches in teaching that allows me to teach to every student to promote growth and learning. I must be able to teach in developmentally appropriate ways using differing instructional methods to ensure that I reach all children where they are. I must do whatever it takes to help each student succeed. The learning experiences that I provide must be challenging enough, yet capable for all of my children to complete with guidance as needed.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the InTASC Standard:

This concept map demonstrates my competence in this standard in two ways. First, it shows my understanding that I am aware of differing methods of instruction for the diversity of learners needs in the classroom. By utilizing the different tools available, I can design and adapt instruction to each childs learning strengths and needs. Secondly, it shows that I can teach my students to utilize a tool that supports intellectual, social, and personal growth. By implementing the use of concept maps with my students it also creates an opportunity for the students to demonstrate their learning in different ways.
