Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact Rationale/Reflection

InTASC Standard #9: Professional Learning & Ethical Practice The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner. Brief Description of Evidence: The artifacts that I have presented for this standard include several certificates from trainings I have attended and a copy of my membership with the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Analysis of What I Learned: Participating in the broad variety of trainings I attend provides me with a larger scope of development and care that will benefit the children and families I have contact with. Teachers learning and growing is never complete and I have learned to try to attain all of the information that I can to best help teach and care for my children and families. I am always looking for ways to improve my teaching and leadership skills. Anytime I can bring information and tools back to implement in the classroom, network with others in the field, and grow as a professional then I know it was time and money well spent. I have also learned that with so much diversity in the world it is important for me to ensure that I have the ethical skills that I need to provide the best culturally sound practices with families I have contact with. I have grown tremendously, as have my skills as a teacher, through the many trainings and conferences I have been able to attend. I am able to reach and connect with other professionals in education and better myself through collaboration with them. I have gained valuable insight into currents trends and ideas that are being utilized in classrooms around the states from presenters that are chosen to bring forth information that is useful for educators. How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the InTASC Standard: I have demonstrated competence in this standard by participating in ongoing professional education. Through the workshops and conferences I attend, I am able to evaluate my practices in the classroom and adapt new practices to better help my students. I am able to seek and reflect upon feedback from colleagues to evaluate my actions and instructional strategies on my students. I can also use feedback from parents, students, and colleagues to evaluate the impact I am having with my students, colleagues, and community members. Through the NAEYC membership I have access to journals and books, on a wide variety of topics, which I can utilize to improve my teaching skills within the classroom.
