This is Disneys Earth Day movie for 2014. The film is 90 minutes . long. The cost for the movie and transportation will be $6.50. No other money is needed, as

Language Arts- Next week we will be working on lesson 27 in Storytown. We will be breaking into small groups to read short stories that go along with the lesson, and we will also begin reading the novel Stone Fox. Our reading skill will focus on main idea and details, and our grammar skill for the week will focus on contractions and possessive pronouns. In spelling, we will be working on words with Greek and Latin word parts. In writing we will be working on sentence fluency and writing an explanatory composition. We will not have a spelling or reading test this week. Instead, there will be alternate assessments.

Language Arts- Next week we will be studying the genre of Tall Tales. The students will be reading the story, The Bunyans. The reading skill will be a review of figurative language and rereading for comprehension. In grammar, the students will be introduced to adverbs. They will be creating a project to showcase their new knowledge. In writing, the students will be testing on words that are all homophones. My morning language arts class will be tested on Thursday and my afternoon class will take their test on Wednesday. All book orders are due on Wednesday, April 16th .

Math: The students will continue working with reflections and symmetry next week. They will also be exploring examples of patterns created with reflections, translations, and rotations. The students will be introduced to addition involving negative integers. ! Science: Next week the students will begin Chapter 7: Hurricanes and Tornadoes. They will be making a model of a hurricane, which will show the vortex movement that gives hurricanes their distinctive shape. The focus next week will be on the stages of tropical storms and hurricanes. Our reading skill for this chapter is finding the main idea and details in a science article.! Social Studies: The students will begin studying the Southwest region next week. They will be learning about the landforms, natural resources, and climate in this region.

Math:

Students will review lines of symmetry and patterns (rotation, translation, and reflection). Students will also practice positive and negative numbers. We will be taking the Unit 10 assessment after break. Please see your childs Assignment Notebook for upcoming test information.

Science: We will complete our study of hurricanes and


tornadoes. Students are comparing and contrasting the two types of extreme weather. Students will be creating an art project, and completing a short informational writing next week based on these topics.

Social Studies:

We will explore the Southwest region of

the United States. Students will begin by reading about sunny Arizona, and discussing the land and water in the Southwest.

Language Arts: Next week we will introduce the Lesson 29 spelling words on Monday with our test on Thursday. Our spelling skill is words with prefix+base+suffix (impatiently, repayment, unhealthy). We will be reading the historical fiction story John Muir and Stickeen and its paired selection John Muir Extreme Explorer. Students will continue learning about figurative language and reviewing punctuation, as well as writing a biographical piece. Our LAST book report of the year will be due on Wednesday, April 30th! Students may read ANY fiction book of their choice, at their reading level, and will be completing a Fancy Folder Book Report. Please be sure your child has his or her book in class. Social Studies: We took our Social Studies Test this week and next week will begin Chapter 8: The Southwest. Students will identify the states and major landforms and rivers of the Southwest, as well as identify the natural resources of the region. We will also discuss the climate and how it helps determine the types of plant and animal life in the Southwest Science: Students are developing an understanding of the properties of rocks and minerals including sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks. Students will be constructing and analyzing information about the properties of earth materials. In addition, we are working on a project about the two major types of diabetes
