Drama: Farm lesson

Teach the class The Pony Song. Have the class sing along to the song. Add a clapping rhythm to the song. Introduce and explain the dancing part of the song. -Half the class is forming an outside circle. -Half the class is forming an inside circle. -As everyone sings the song together, the outside circle will stand and clap the rhythm while the inside circle will gallop in a circle. -When the song ends, everyone should be standing face to face with a partner in the opposite circle, and they switch places, thus those on the inside circle will now be standing on the outside, and those on the inside circle will get a chance to dance on the inside. -After each group has galloped once, the teacher will change the gallop style for the next rounds. Sharing the Purpose/Objectives: The 5 purpose of this class will be to learn to be comfortable with using voice and body to communicate ideas. As part of the objective, you will pretend to be a marketing group that needs to design a tableau ad for a company called Fantasy Farm to entice customers to visit. Warm up activity: -Ask students to brain storm a list of farm animals and note it on the board. -Ask each student to write down one animal on a piece of paper. And then crumple it up. -Explain the instructions of the game. -On the count of three, the students will toss their paper in the air, and pick up one of the crumpled piece of paper, open it and read it. -Once they know their animal, they will then

go around the class trying to discover their family (ie. Ducks with ducks), but without using human words. Students are allowed to act, and make sound effects. X 10 mins Body: Tableau activity: Tableau of things/ scenes/stories which could happen on a farm. Students will work in small groups of 4-5 students. Teacher will first demonstrate the following activity:
The first person starts the tableau by saying I am a tree and freeze into position as a tree. The remaining members will one-by-one add to the tableau as a new object. For example I am a dog peeing on the tree. The tableau is complete once all the members are frozen in the tableau. Once everyone is in the tableau, the person who was first in the tableau will get to decide the object they will keep from this tableau for a new tableau. Everyone else will exit the tableau, and start all over and help make a new tableau.

At the end of the tableau warm up, the group will pick their favourite tableau, and present it to the class. Closure: Presentation: Each group will then pick their best tableau and present it to the class (2 minutes) -Form the tableau as a group -Each member explains what/who they are in the tableau and what they are doing (or the story behind that pose).
