Introduction

In this coursework, when an object is thrown vertically upward, it experiences a deceleration in its velocity and eventually stops which is when the velocity becomes zero when it reaches the highest point. The velocity decreases because there is force acting on the object which according to the question is retarding force |v|, where is a positive constant and v is the velocity, m 1 . When the object falls back to the ground, it experiences gravitational force, g which is a force due to gravity. Both fall and rise of the object experience air resistance with magnitude in opposite direction. Newtons second Law, F=ma is used to explain the phenomenon, where F is the net force, m as in mass in kg, and a as acceleration m 2 and hence it is able to show the formula, = |v| - mg

The time taken to reach the highest point and the time taken to fall back to the initial projection level can be compared by constructing mathematical models by using differential equation. Differential equation is a mathematical statement that contains one or more derivatives. By using the first order differential equation with separable variables and further integration, things such as the velocity, m 1 and height, S can be found. An investigation of the relationship between time, t and various mass, m and also the relationship between time, t and various will be investigate throughout this coursework.
