HIS MAJESTYS GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME OVERSEAS
FOR ACADEMIC SESSION 2014/2015.
BRUNEI ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME (BAS) UNDER
SERVICE COMMISSION, PRIME MINISTERS OFFICE

Applicants who meet the requirements listed and wish to continue their studies to
the Advanced Level ('A' Level), First Degree and Advance Degree for Brunei
Administrative Service Scholarship overseas from academic session 2014/2015
may apply.

TYPES OF SCHOLARSHIP
There are two types of Overseas Scholarship Scheme being offered: 2.1 Special Scholarship for 'A' Level
This scholarship is designated for outstanding students at Ordinary Level ('O'
level) to study at a higher level ('A' Level) and then to First Degree and Advance
Degree.
2.2 Special Scholarship for First Degree
This scholarship is designated to outstanding students at the Advance Level ('A'
Level) to pursue their First Degree and then Advance Degree.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must:
3.1 Be a citizen of Brunei Darussalam.
3.2 Obtained at least a Credit in Malay Language at Brunei Cambridge General
Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (O Level) in one sitting with other
subjects.

3.3 Obtained a Distinction (Grade A) in English Language at BGCE Ordinary


Level or equivalent.

3.4 By 1 September 2014, age must not exceed 19 years old for 'A' level
applicants and 25 years old for Bachelors degree.
3.5 Acquired the minimum academic qualification according to the following
levels and fields of study:
3.5.1

'A' Level Special Scholarship Scheme

Acquired at least 7 subjects with grade A in BGCE Ordinary Level


or equivalent in relevant subjects including English Language and
at least a Credit in Malay Language taken in the same sitting.
3.5.2 First Degree Scholarship Scheme
Achieved a minimum of 3 (three) subjects in BGCE Advanced
Level (A Level) in one sitting, which are related to the course
being with the following grades:

AAA (360 UCAS Tariff Points) + a


Or
AAA (360 UCAS Tariff Points) + b
Or
AAB (340 UCAS Tariff Points) + a
Or
AAA (360 UCAS Tariff Points)

UCAS Tariff Points:


A = 120

B = 100

C = 80

D = 60

4. ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS
Applicants must also satisfy the following additional requirements:

4.1 Pass the criminal background check;


4.2 Declared medically fit in the medical examination (valid for six months);
4.3 Pass in Malay Language oral examination conducted by the Malay Oral
Examination Committee Ministry of Education;
4.4 Active participation in extra-curricular activities and / or outdoor activities.

5. COURSE AREAS

Recipients of these scholarships are required to obtain the following


qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree (joint degree) and a Master's degree in one of the subjects
in the 'joint degree'
OR
Two Bachelors degrees (double degree) in 2 different disciplines

OR
A Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in the same discipline

6. DURATION AND PLACE OF STUDY
6.1 Successful 'A' level scholars will study in renowned Boarding Schools.

6.2 First Degree scholars are required to secure a place of study at reputable

institutions in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Singapore or the


United States.
6.3 Duration of study for a First Degree is 4 to 5 years, depending on the type

of course. For scholars who started from 'A' Level, the maximum duration
should not exceed 7 years.
7. APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED

Applicants in the following categories will automatically not be considered:


7.1 Currently working in the Public or Private sector, whether on a permanent
basis, on probation, month-to-month basis or open vote.
7.2 Applications received after the specified closing date or incomplete or
include copies of certificates and documents that are not certified or contain
false or misleading information or failed to obtain authorization from the
department.
8. APPLICATION PROCEDURE

8.1 First Degree Abroad (Online applications)


Applicants who wish to apply for Scholarships for First Degree overseas
should make an online application at the HECAS website
(http://www.hecas.edu.bn).
8.2 'Confidential Report' may be sent separately to:

8.3 All copies of certificates and documents submitted must be certified by the

Principal / Head of Department / Employer.


8.4 Applicants are required to submit the application form with a copy of the
offer letter from the place of study as well as the course content.
8.5 The application closing date is 18 March 2014.
9. ATTENTION

Only applicants who satisfy the requirements and criteria by the Scholarship
Committee from the Ministry of Education will undergo the Malay Language
Oral examination to be scheduled at a later date.
