Topic of Study:

Drama

LESSON PLANNING
Teacher: Jaclyn Krueger

Rationale Statement:

What is your topic of study? What is your hook, why have you chosen this topic of study? The area of study is careers and community helpers. What is the goal of this activity? What will children learn? What are the expected outcomes?

Objectives:

The children will learn about different careers and community helpers and they will be able to dress up and play as whichever one they choose. They will learn new vocabulary and practice imaginary play. Which Standards are met by your activity? You may use any of the following: Arizona Early Learning Standards or Arizona Common Core Standards or Infant and Toddler Guidelines. All are posted on Canvas under Modules Week 1. AL S4 C1 a- Uses imagination to generate new ideas. Description of activity. Include steps for completing the activity, who will complete the activityages of children to complete activity, how long the activity takes to implement, where the activity will be completed (small or large group, center, inside vs. outside, etc.).

Standards:

Activity:

This activity is meant for a preschool age group and is done inside. This students will learn about five different community helpers or professions as a group. They will then create a hat or a prop to use while we play. The prop or hat can go with one of the careers we talked about or it can be something different. (If the student likes a career but needs help thinking of a prop or hat you can guide them but the initial choice should be theirs. ) Finally they will pretend as if they are at their jobs in their own community.

Materials Needed:

What materials are needed to complete the activity?

!" " Paper Crayons Yarn Scissors Glue Tape (for any badges) Examples of props Picture cards of careers How will you assess students understanding, learning, or growth from this activity?

Assessment:

I will be able to see if they understand the term career by what they choose to pretend to be and how they act it out. The main thing I will be assessing is their socialization during playtime. What areas of development (Language, social and emotional, cognitive, physical) are promoted by this activity? Be specific. (Refer to Creative Curriculum Developmental Continuum if needed). This activity promotes social/emotional and language skills. The students will use their new vocabulary in a social environment with their peers and use their imaginary play skills to act out a career. How did the plan work? Was enough planned? Too much? Did children maintain interest or go in other directions? What will you do the same if you repeat this activity? What will you do differently the next time? How can you extend this activity?

Lesson Reflection:

This is a fun lesson that everyone likes to get involved with. The best part is that the children really get to be unique. You end up with an array of careers such as veterinarians police officers, or chefs. The children like to be creative and social so this is a win-win.
