There are now an estimated 4.8 million documented, interracial marriages every year in the United States.

As more immigrants enter the country, we see 1 out of 12 individuals marrying outside of their race. Despite these growing numbers, we still see resistance in states such as Alabama who have fought to hold bans on interracial marriage in place as recent as the year 2000. Interracial relationships and marriages may seem to be accepted in the U.S., but they still have a ways to go due to lingering racism before they reach wholehearted acceptance. Instead of feeding into the negativity and racism, we must move forward as a country and nurture the diversification of the world through mixing races. Racial boundaries are blurred, ultimately helping us reach equality so we MUST raise awareness in support of interracial marriage as well as stop any racism we encounter. It is a human right to marry who you love.
