Falling into Mr. Hofherrs Kindergarten Class!

Language Arts: Last month in review Students learned about concepts pertaining to print through books being read aloud to the class and by having the students interact with various forms of print. Standards K.1.1 K.1.6 The students began creating our popcorn word list which is made up of words frequently used. These words are practiced in class and are expected to be learned as the list grows. Standard K.1.15 Students have practiced their writing skills by drawing and writing about a variety of topics such as their family or favorite animal. Standards K.4.3 K.4.5 The students have been practicing the importance of handwriting by practicing their knowledge of the alphabet and writing the letters correctly. Standard K.6.1 There has been weekly show and tell which helps develop the students speaking skills by sharing their experiences and informing the class about a familiar topic. Standard K.7.2 Language Arts: Material for this month The students will pay close attention to the sounds they hear while they begin to read aloud. They will practice how each sound is different and what order they belong in. Standard K.1.7 As I read aloud to the class I will have them engage in conversation about the book being read to check for comprehension. Standard K.2.3 While the students are working with various print materials they will be looking to tell the difference between fantasy from reality. Standard K.3.1 I will continue to build the students writing skills by challenging them to write independently. This will also give me a better understanding about how well each child comprehends the alphabet. Standard K.6.2 I will have the students share their experiences or creative stories with the class after independent writing or at the beginning of a new week. Standard K.7.5

Math: Last month in review The students learned the basics of math by understanding the relationship between numbers and quantities from 0 to 10 by using one-to-one relationships. Standards K.1.1 and K.1.2 The students began to add two objects together using blocks to create a new number that is in between 0 and 10. Standard K.2.1 The students examined base ten blocks to help classify objects by their characteristics (size, shape, and color). Standard K.3.1 The students learned to tell the difference between common shapes found in everyday life such as circles, squares, triangles, and rectangles. Standard K.4.1 The students experimented with various objects in order to test their length, weight, and temperature to find out how mathematics is applied and recognize how to tell how objects can be taller or shorter, cooler, warmer, etc. Standard K.5.1 Math: Material for this month The students will make comparisons between two sets of blocks to decide which set has more blocks and why. Standard K.1.2 The students will begin subtraction by manipulating blocks. They will deal with numbers between 0 and 10. Standard K.2.2 I will have the students explain their operation when dealing with addition and subtraction. Standard K.2.3 The students will be taught the concepts of time in reference to an analog clock, a calendar, and seasons. The problems will pertain to addition and subtraction using numbers between 0 and 10. Standard K.6.1

Make veggies food by serving them with your childs favorite dipping sauces or make them into fun shapes. Bring your child to the grocery store and ask for your childs help when picking out fruits, veggies, and other healthy snacks.
