Li February 24, 2014 Language Arts Materials Inventory There are many specific forms of language arts equipment, supplies and curriculum available for my teacher/ student use. The first one is the South Carolina PASS Coach. The South Carolina PASS coach book is used to help students prepare for the South Carolina Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (PASS). The Palmetto Assessment of State Standards test items measure student performance on the South Carolina Academic Standards. Palmetto Assessment of State Standards test results are used for school, district, and federal (No Child Left Behind) accountability purposes. The PASS Coach is a workbook that Mrs. Berry uses to help coach and motivate her students to do excellent and exemplary on the PASS test. She also uses Reading Street. Reading Street Common Core helps teachers prioritize instruction to support higher levels of reading and writing. Additionally it also helps increase text complexity in reading, it provides accessible rigor, it helps students balance fiction and informational texts, it helps it build content-area knowledge and emphasize close reading, it helps students focus on informative/explanatory, argumentative/opinion, and narrative writing, it also helps students implement performance assessments, and integrate media and 21st century technology skills. She also uses the Growth of a Nation Social Studies text book, this book is a great resource because it makes social studies

easy to read and understand and it also gives the students a list of new vocabulary words which helps their Language arts skills because they are learning how to pronounce and spell a variety of new words. Additionally to assist the students she also uses the Frayer Model. The Frayer Model helps with vocabulary development. There are four quadrants for definition, characteristics, examples and non-examples with the word written in the center of the rectangle. She also uses the American Reading Company. The American Reading Company is great resource to use within the classroom because it offers a variety of materials that can be used to help children of all ages improve on their reading and their reading comprehension. This website really caught my attention because so many children in the United States of America cannot read, do not want to read or read way below their age or grade level. If more teachers as well as parents used this website as a resource to help their children learn I fell that more children would be more successful readers, writers, and spellers. I feel that all of these resources listed above were used effectively within the classroom. These resources seem to be very helpful in assisting the students with the reading, writing and spelling, they also seemed to be age and grade appropriate.
