Adrianna Holbrook Mrs.

Raymond English 1102 29 January 2014 Where it all started The last name is Teeter; you might have recognized it by the grocery store Harris Teeter but that is not where everything started. That side of my family originated from Germany. I am not exactly sure where in Germany or what time period they were in the country but it began there. The German flag represents the pride and identity of its people and their characters, in form of color. The red color is the symbol for durability and bravery. The black color on the other hand represents their determination. The yellow stripe stands for the kindness and big-heartedness of its people. The flag was re-adopted on May 23, 1949 this flag had been their flag in 1848 until 1871. When Germany was split between east and west the flag represented the west side. Then in 1990 Germany was reunited and the flag stayed the same it just now represented the country as a whole. The German flag has three horizontal lines in it and they are black, red, and yellow. The colors were the colors of the German soldiers during the Napoleonic Wars. The name of their National Anthem is called Das Lied der Deutischen. The melody of the German national anthem comes from the old Austrian imposing anthem. In 1841 Haydn's melody was combined with with lyrics by August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben to create Das Lied der Deutschen or Das Deutschlandlied. Becoming a citizen of Germany is really hard. I read articles about how there is a lot of paperwork to fill out. It al so cost a lot of money because everything has to be officially translated. You cannot

get a job without a residency permit. I know a lot about the country after doing all of the research I just need to talk more to my grandfather about where exactly we were located in Germany. Also talk to him about what time we were over there and when did we come to the United States.
