Williams 1 James Williams Professor Dagher English 1102-017 28 January 2014 Inquiry Proposal I intend to research gene modification.

I want to learn how close science has come to being able to alter genes and make a perfect person. If this person was created how would the world react to the creation. I recently watched a classic movie called Blade Runner. In the movie there are perfect versions of humans who became that way through genetic modification. Genetic modification is direct manipulation of an organisms genome using biotechnology (CSIRO). Gene modification is not a serious problem but more of a topic that I would like to learn more about. Traditionally gene modification has been used on plants to create new types of food or food that is resistant to something. Scientists who alter genes do it in the hopes that the offspring of the altered organism will have the preferred traits. Gene modification also includes taking preferred genes out of one organism and putting it into another. This is how a scientist could create the perfect human. Some cases where creating the perfect human would be desirable may be for athletics or military use. If one country could create the perfect athlete they would be able to be other countries in the Olympics or war.

Williams 1 The way to research this correctly would be to use scientific databases or medical papers. I will use the library at UNCC to the best of my ability but may have to do most of my research on the internet.
