What is Higher Education Policy?- EDLD 8435 For this final project, candidates were required to write a maximum seven (7) page paper (double-spaced) addressing the topic: What is Higher Education Policy? This assignment reflects on the course and the content studied and presents a theoretical opinion piece answering this question. 9. Research Article Critique- EDUR 7130 The intent of this assignment is for the candidate to apply acquired research skills by critiquing a research article of their choosing. Performance was evaluated according to readability, accuracy and mastery of application of research concepts. The article I chose to critique was, College Students Attitudes about an Inclusive Postsecondary Education Program for Individuals with Intellectual Disability. I chose this article because I have an interest in developing stronger postsecondary educational programs for students with disabilities. 10. Multicultural Environments Paper- COUN 7134 Candidates were required to prepare a paper that outlined their philosophy on how practitioners should think about ethics and professional issues in student services. This may be related to institutional type and the functional areas relevant to their point of view. 11. Career Field- COUN 7134 The candidate must choose a career field that interests them and write a paper which describes the skills and experiences required for them to succeed in the field; identify and discuss 3 important current issues in the field. Resources included interviews with at least two people in the field. This paper was accompanied by a class presentation which can be found on the Presentations page. My chosen career field, of course, was higher education. More specifically I would like to work in the division of student affairs. 12. Abstract Critique- EDLD 8434 Nine article critiques (100-150 words) of current journal articles, newspapers, or other related sources were required. Student Observation- COUN 7132 For this assignment the candidate was required to conduct an observation of student interactions and then relate their observations to a student development theory. I chose to do

my observation from the third floor of the library because it gave me a unique perspective in that I was unable to hear individual actions but I was able to see a larger body of students at one time and for an extended period as well. I related my observation to Chickerings Seven Vectors of Student Development because I belief it is the best representation of the traditional college student experience. 14. Developmental Journey- Contemporary College Student COUN 7132 The purpose of this assignment was to identify a student development theory that reflected the candidates own personal experience. I chose Chickerings Seven Vectors of Student Development because movement along the vectors is not linear. The development along the vectors is spontaneous with various vectors influencing the others. 15. Higher Education Trajectory- EDLD 7430 The Higher Education Trajectory discusses my personal interest and goals in higher education. It is much like the Career Field paper found later in my coursework, but there is a difference in my focus between the two. Reflectively, I understand higher education much better in the Career Fields paper. 16. I discussed the historical context of this issue, the relevant events in history that shaped the issue, and the future implications. 18. Extra Credit-Human Learning Theories EDUF 7130 The purpose of this document was to find a question that was missed on the exam and write about the given topic utilizing five sources for extra credit. The question I chose was Which learning strategy involves connecting new information to prior experiences to go beyond the content of new information? The answer to the question is elaborative learning which is often times confused with meaningful learning. Elaboration is the act of taking new information and adding it to prior knowledge.

19. Higher Education Purpose Statement- Higher Education Masters Application This document was a part of my application for entrance into the Higher Education Masters program. It is a simple short essay but I feel it highlights a lot of the reasons I sought out my Masters in Higher Education. From this paper to my more recent ones you will see my writing style improve.
