Beaver Country Day Summer Camp, Brookline, MA Circus Counselor, ages 6-10 (Summers 2008-2010) Helped campers develop circus skills through small group instruction and individualized choice. Assisted with organization and with taking care of campers. Childcare Caregiver for family with 2 boys ages 10 and 8 as well as 2 girls, one age 11 and one age 6 with Down Syndrome, (2012, 2013). Caregiver for 1 boy age 8 and one girl age 10, (2012, 2013). Caregiver for family with three children (2008 - 2011). Personal Experience One of the primary caregivers for my younger brother who has Aspergers Syndrome, ADHD, Sensory Integration Disorder. ACADEMIC PROGRAM COURSE HIGHLIGHTS


*The Teaching of English Language Learners: Pre-K to 12: examines the intersection of culture and language, including issues such as testing and family involvement. Learned variety of strategies for instructing English Language Learners and created and implemented lessons for English Language Learners. *Moderate Disabilities Workshop: learn special education history and laws, how to interpret and write individualized education plans and 504s, practice administering Woodcock-Johnson Test of Achievement, and learn about assistive technology devices. *Individual Differences in Development: developmental range/variation of children in their familial, medical, societal, and education domains. Considers etiology, treatment, policy, and intervention. 3 hour per week practicum component *Children with Special Needs: focuses on pedagogy, inclusive education, and comparative approaches. Looks at dilemmas of working with children with special needs and recognizing the childs perspective. Investigates impact of medical versus social approaches. *Literacy in the Elementary School: combines theoretical and practical approaches to teaching reading and writing and creating social justice classroom communities. 3 hour per week practicum component *Children, Books, and Culture: focuses on multicultural childrens literature to promote literacy development for diverse learners. *Elementary School Curriculum and Teaching: Literacy, Social Studies, and Other Topics: designed social studies unit using Understanding by Design lesson planning approach. Emphasizes the cognitive, social, and cultural dimensions of literacy learning as well as strategies for reading and writing nonfiction and critical approaches to the teaching of social studies.
