Task 3.1.2 a) One instructional strategy that I will be using is modeling with gradual release of responsibility.

I start off by modeling by myself to the class. I gradually add student participation until students are eventually at the board adding the problems by themselves. Another strategy that I use is group work so that students can help one another. I believe that sometimes students learn better from their peers rather than just hearing something re-explained by the teacher. This allows for the students to collaborate with one another and hopefully benefit from hearing each others reasoning and explanations. b) The strategies connect to the learning goal because students need large amounts of modeling of different ways to solve a problem in this content area. When a student experiences repetition in the classroom, eventually they will get used to adding problems such as these. These strategies ensure that a student hears, sees, and shows how to work this type of Math problem.

c) I used individual, small group, and whole group instruction in this lesson. Students benefit from different forms of groupings. Some students work better alone while others benefit from help from their peers. Therefore, I wanted a variety of groupings so that each child had the opportunity to learn. I included the individual review of the assessment conferences so that each student could see what he or she needed to improve to work these problems correctly.
