Midterm Reflection

My midterm evaluation with my cooperating teacher, Christi Hoskinson, and university supervisor, Diane Kowalski, went really well. Many of my strengths were showcased during this assessment. I also found different areas on which I need to grow and work on in the upcoming weeks. One of my goals for student teaching was to become more confident and work on taking initiative. During my evaluation I was told that I was doing a great job in this area. I have had great communication with my cooperating teacher, my students, and other staff members around the building. I do need to continue on working toward better communication between school and home. I will be transitioning to more contact with parents in the upcoming weeks. The area I was most proud of on this assessment was the professional responsibilities and demonstrates commitment to fairness and the ability of all to learn. I was scored, by both Christi and Diane, with all exemplary marks in this area. Christi wrote You always seek out opportunities and organizations to learn about your craft. You are always professional in you dress and demeanor. This also speaks to my goal of being more confident and taking initiative. I will continue my efforts in this area in the weeks to follow. A goal of mine was to work on promoting higher level thinking in my classroom. Christi and Diane both said that I am doing a good job of this at this time but to continue to find ways to challenge the students. I strive to give my students the opportunity to think about problems on a higher level. I also give them many opportunities for problem solving to promote this level of

thinking. The math talk we use in our math curriculum lends itself nicely to this. I will continue to find different ways to challenge my students in all subject areas. I need to focus more on integrating Indian Education for All in the upcoming weeks. Finding different ways to integrate this into the curriculum is very important. I will challenge myself to find ways to tie in the culture of Frenchtown and the Native Americans in Montana. I understand how important this is for children in Montana to learn. Overall, I feel that my evaluation for student teaching at midterm went really well. I will challenge myself to work on the recommendations given by Christi and Diane. I will continue to do the things I am doing well in the following weeks. I hope to continue to learn and grow as an educator in my final 8 weeks at Frenchtown School Elementary.
