E-Portfolio Reflection Joseph Brewer

Summary Paper: The Summary paper prepared me for my final paper in helping me to learn the most effective way of putting something into my own words and still effectively describing the information. It helped me to be able to read something and think how the best way to word it would be for how I want to convey that information, some specifics I learned from writing the summary was how to summarize a point of view or information in a non-biased way, while keeping my opinion out of it. Summary Response Paper: This paper helped me on my final paper by preparing me on how I can summarize information in a way that shows me opinion to that information. This paper helped me specifically to learn how I can be reasonable while I am presenting an opinion with the information. I learned how to both disagree with something and agree with something in a reasonable and intelligent manner. Rhetorical Analysis Paper: This paper prepared me for the final paper in helping me to analyze information on more than just one level. I learned how to look at both the information and the author in different ways to better understand the information and how it can be used. I learned how pathos, logos, ethos and kairos are used in order to cover all your bases and show depth in writing and persuasion. These for things add to the writing by specifically targeting each aspect of how the writing will be analyzed.

Annotated Bibliography: This prepared me for my final paper by helping me to learn to analyze information I want to use and figure out how I am going to use it. It helped for me in writing it down so when I went on to write my paper I knew what information I had and how it would help me. Position Synthesis Paper: The things that I learned from writing this paper were first off how I could put lots of information into my own words in order to present an argument. I learned how I could present the information in a reasonable way while still maintaining my ground. I learned how I can relate information from one source to another and connect ideas in order to form a basis for my opinion. I feel this paper is a good culmination of what I learned in English 1010 because I used a lot of what I learned such as summarizing ideas, presenting my opinion and stance, supporting my claims, being reasonable, and making a valid argument that is credible and appeals to both logic and emotions. Feedback, Handouts and checklists: What I learned from the feedback I was given was how I could present certain things in a clearer way. I also learned how I could improve the overall flow and connection of the papers I wrote. I learned from the handouts and checklists lots of information that would help me cover my bases. I also learned different approaches to presenting my writing. Overall I learned how certain ideas, formats and structures applied to certain ways of writing. For example the templates for presenting an argument. Exams: From the exams I learned the key definitions and formats for certain ways of writing. I learned why certain structures of writing are important and what purpose they served. I

also learned about many key definitions that can be added to the writing in order to make it better. For example, adding metacommentary helps to clarify the authors viewpoint. Textbook: What I learned from the textbook mainly is the different styles of writing there are, and how each of these different styles and formats can be used. Overall what I learned from this class is how I can analyze information, figure out what the information is saying, and present that information and how I can present that information in the best possible way.
