Flaherty 1 Nick Flaherty Megan Keaton Enc 1102-31 28 April 2014 Daybook entries and Reflections

1/22/14 1) Boss: I am deeply saddened that I am unable to make it to work today because I have contracted a very serious fever. I am unable to get out of bed and have been throwing up constantly throughout the night. I hope you understand why I had to take ONE day off of work so that tomorrow i can come in close to 100% and so ill be able to do my job to the best of my abilities. 2) Friend: Yo man, i cant make it out to dinner tonight. Ive been sick all day with a fever and had to miss work because of it. im sure once Im healthy we can definitely make it out to that restaurant. im saying within 2-3 days i should be 100%. Ill let you know when i feel good enough to go out. later man!
I chose this daybook entry because it was an important lesson that we learned in class; the difference between formal and informal ways of typing and who they are targeted to. The first entry was directed towards a boss of a job I work at. I was informing him that I was going to miss work in a professional way without grammatical issues. The second one is a text to a friend where I could type however I wanted to and use any type of slang. This daybook activity was helpful because it molded us into seeing that we shouldnt be writing informally with our college papers and that every paper should be written professionally with proper grammar.

2/3/14 1) i started off by going through a linear perspetive while writing. i started from my childhood and worked my way up to when i was in high school. 2) i organized my ideas as branches from the main idea of academic experiences. from circling the main idea, i was able to branch out many details in my life that were relatable to the topic. 3) when we learned about audience, purpose, and genre. learning that those three topics are what we are supposed to use in our writing made it a lot easier to piece together my paper. 4) when Megan said we could write in 3rd/ 1st person.
This daybook entry was a reflection about the techniques we used to write our educational experience and what had helped us the most. I decided to choose this entry because it shows how I was able to organize ideas for my paper. I stated how I was able to come up with different ideas by circling the main idea which was academic experiences and branched out different achievements or times I had struggled in school. Its importance is relative to me because I have used this way of organization for other projects throughout the semester which was helpful with organization and sparking new ideas and it showed that I am able to craftily spark new ideas and details for papers.

4/9/14 1) the brochure is probably the most effective because it states all the facts and details that need to be known. It is the easiest to follow because all of the facts are on the page instead of in a dialogue where one might lose focus and not catch specific facts on genre or medium. 2) The least effective, to be honest, was probably the skit because dialogue can always be hard to follow and keep focused on for an extended period of time. 3) another genre that might have been effective would have been a powerpoint that had pictures of different genres and examples of different mediums that one could use.

I chose to include this daybook entry because it helped me choose reliable genres that I would be able to use and that I would be good at creating for the C3G project. It was an important in class activity because it allowed us to experiment with different genres to see which ones we would want to use for the project. I quickly learned that I was more creative with creating visuals rather than writing a dialogue or play. It showed that I am better able to get information across in creative ways other than only writing papers.
